Hermeneutics - Traditional Hermeneutics is the study of the interpretation of written texts in the area of literature, religion and law.

How can one understand God's word if they have not studied hermeneutics? Personally I couldn't and it would be fair to say, nobody can.

Briefly, one will learn from the study that:

1. Find to whom the scripture is written, and use that as primary target.

2. Find another scripture that backs up the first.

The major points would be:

1. The Old Testament was written to the Jews and concerned them.

2. In the Four Gospels, the scripture just above where Jesus speaks, will generally denote the audience to whom he was speaking.

3. In the Epistles, each book's title and/or the first few verses will generally denote the audience to whom it was written.

4. In the Book of Revelation it mentions that John was to send the letter to the seven churches in Asia, that existed at that time.

One should note, that none of the above is addessed to our generation.

For starters, here are a couple of scriptures to guide us.

1Jo 4:6
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

(John and others that wrote the books were men of God, and what they wrote was of God)

2Pe 1:20
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
(One can not properly interpret the bible without using scripture, usually two or more)

Rev 22:19

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
(The Book of Revelation is the most misinterpreted book in the bible)

One is encouraged to:
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2Ti 2:15
