Not for everybody. Those who are truly born again by the Spirit of God will remain in Christ until the very end. Those who turn back were never truly children of God...1John 2:19
There are promises all over the bible saying that God will keep those who truly love Him....all the ones that fall away or turn back never had a firm root in to begin with. Lot's of people think they are saved and think they are going to heaven. But the true disciples of Christ are preserved until that final day. Remember...salavtion belongs to God. Our fruit that we bear comes from Him. Our sanctification comes from Him. He is the bread of life. From Him comes all that we are and in Him there is eternal life. So if we truly are abiding in Him...the God who saved us will keep us forever and ever. To say that we who are truly born again can fall away is to say that God is a derelict Father! That is not what Hebrews says.
Sorry, James, but you are incorrect here. Know one can take us from God but we can make the choice to leave. That is in fact what it means to “fall away” (apostasy). You can not, can NOT, commit apostasy if you were not a Christian first. You can not “fall away” if you were not in the way to begin with. Just like you can not fall away from up a tree if you were not in up the tree to start with.
2Th 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
All ten women were virgins here in Matthew. The five foolish VIRGINS were not almost virgins. The ran short of oil or TRUTH. Maybe they thought they had enough, but what ever the reason they ran out. They went to buy so more and returned to the wedding supper late. The text says, “Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins,” the text does not say they had lost their virginity, it just says “the other virgins.”
Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
Mat 25:3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
Mat 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Mat 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Both, ones that “fell away,” and the five virgins didn’t make it. As long as you have “free will” you make your own decisions. That is not God being a derelict Father, that is being a derelict Christian, building your house on the sand.
