If Mary had other children, why did Jesus handed her to His Apostle?

When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! (John 19:26)

Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. (John 19:27)

Because Jesus was looking after His mother and his siblings were not around, so he gave charge of her to his cousin, the one that Jesus loved, which was Lazarus, the one he raised from the dead in John 11.

But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother. - Galatians 1:19
Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? - Matthew 13:55

It looks like Jesus's had four brothers and one of them, James, became an apostle. James continued faithfully in the Lord's service until executed by a Sanhedrin in 62 AD. it looks like the other brothers of the Lord are obscure figures. So that is a tough question.Keep in mind though that these are actually half brothers of the Lord as Jesus is not a product of Joseph and Mary.

Lazarus was a friend and not a cousin of Jesus.

The dialog between Jesus, Mary, and Lazarus had a more spiritual significance than Jesus awarding Mary to the disciple He loved. This had to do with the Old and New Testaments. The Bible is full of types an figures, and substances and shadows, this is one of them.

In fact, Lazarus is the writer of the Book of John.

The dialog itself shows Jesus was related to them. Martha was so upset that she actually scolded Jesus. Mary was so upset, she wouldn’t come out to greet Jesus. She didn’t even leave the house. This is significant of relatives dealing with one another, and close, as Jesus was well aware of the health of Lazarus. This was NOT a stranger, John 11 says Jesus wept.

I have already established in another thread that Lazarus was the author of John, so I agree with you.
