Right at the movie's beginning, there is a written disclaimer: This film is not based upon the Gospels.

As a Christian, I would not spend much time watching it. However, some might watch it for the entertainment value. Nikos Kazantzakis wrote the fictional story trying to understand the internal conflict between Jesus as a man and Jesus as a God, i.e., his human and divine natures. He will have to answer to God what he wrote about Christ.

No. There is nothing to be gained spiritually by watching this. Nothing but speculation by people who haven't the first clue as to what they're talking about -- they are not nor will ever be gods so they have absolutely no frame of reference with which to posit Christ's thoughts. It is, at the very least, grossly disrespectful to our Lord.

It's a great film. Watch and judge for yourself.

I've never watched it, but I'll put it on my 'to-do' list.

How about Jesus Christ Superstar? Any fans?

I love this song- as sung by the Mary Magdelene character>>

I don't know how to love him.
What to do, how to move him.

I've been changed, yes really changed.
In these past few days, when I've seen myself, I seem like someone else.
I don't know how to take this.
I don't see why he moves me.
He's a man. He's just a man.
And I've had so many men before, In very many ways, He's just one more.
Should I bring him down?
Should I scream and shout?
Should I speak of love, Let my feelings out?
I never thought I'd come to this.

What's it all about?
Don't you think it's rather funny, I should be in this position.
I'm the one who's always been So calm, so cool, no lover's fool, Running every show.
He scares me so.
I never thought I'd come to this.
What's it all about?
Yet, if he said he loved me, I'd be lost. I'd be frightened.
I couldn't cope, just couldn't cope.
I'd turn my head. I'd back away.
I wouldn't want to know.
He scares me so.
I want him so.
I love him so.

As a musical, I enjoyed some of the songs. As a drama, not so much. As a theology, not at all. Still, I wouldn't mind watching it again with some friends but I don't think I will watch it again by myself.

As with the movie- The Last Temptation of Christ and that disclaimer you mentioned, -I don't think the intent here was theological.
