I agree Aspen, except for this part:

Im not sure what you mean by this. The experiences of the saints are inspiring, but not inspired. Very different concepts. I would not say there are other God-breathed texts.
Any text that conveys the love of God is inspired - we certainly do not have the ability to produce it on our own. Now determining what qualifies as God's love is another matter, but when it is communicated, it's source is God.

Aspen,

That is simply not true and not in accordance with anything the church has believed throughout history. Just because something is "true" does not mean it is inspired. Biblical inspiration indicates that someone was under the direct guidance and influence of God to communicate a message from Him. Someone can write true things about love, but it doesn't mean that God supernaturally directed the message...as is understood in Biblical inspiration. Otherwise, the Bible is really not all that special.

We are incapable of producing truth on our own When I see it, I recognize it as inspired. When I see God's love in others and nature, I recognize it as inspired. It really can have no other source, but God. And really, when you think about it, your claim that writing can be inspiring can only be possible when the source is inspired.

The Bible does not have to be unique to be true. I have also heard people claim that Jesus's death on the Cross had to be the worst death possible to be valid - it is just not true.

aspen,

When I married my youngest son and his wife, he said to me, 'Dad, please do not say anything Christian in this wedding ceremony'. He and his wife-to-be wanted me, a marriage celebrant, to marry them but he wanted nothing to do with God and Christ in the ceremony. This was very sad for my wife and me as all 3 children have been raised in an evangelical Christian home.

Since that wedding and the birth of their first child, we have had an exceptionally loving relationship with my son, his wife and grand-daughter. They love us deeply. They do not have the slightest desire to love God. They choose to love us as parents, in-laws and grand-parents.

Therefore, I reject your statement, 'When I see God's love in others and nature, I recognize it as inspired. It really can have no other source, but God'. My son's love for us is not from God. It is a choice he has made because we are his loving parents. He is responding to our love, but also initiating his own love towards us even today - even though he now loves thousands of km away from us.

God does not need our permission to work within us. All love is from God, whether your son and his family recognize it or not.
