I'm currently interested in this, past and future. The future is the idea that spiritually this world is Egypt and is & will be plagued until Jesus returned."According to the days of thy coming out of the land of Egypt will I shew unto him marvellous things. The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might: they shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf. They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the LORD our God, and shall fear because of thee." (Micah 7:15-17)"And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified." (Rev.11:8) Here's an interesting page on the past plagues, though comparing with the descriptions here and here, he may have got some of the Egyption gods wrong, not sure yet.Bernard Nicklin in "Signposts of History" does a good job of relating them to what happened to society from World War 1 onwards:-waters turned to blood = (1914-18), "the beginning of sorrows" (Matt.24:7-8)frogs = political agitators (1919)lice = unemployment (early 1920s)flies = General Strike (1926)murrain on beasts & fields = Trade depression (29-32)boils = financial crises (29-33)hail and fire = Spanish civil war, WWII (36-45)locusts = property & capital devouved - nationalisation (45-50)darkness = materialism and no faith in God (50s onwards)firstborn slain = death of natural man This broadly concurs with the dates in the ante chamber and kings chamber in The Great Pyramid.Josephus writes concerning Israel in Egypt:-‘They (the Egyptian taskmasters) set them also to build pyramids.’Antiquities of the Jews, II-IX-1Later Pyramids were of mud brick, which would explain why they needed to gather straw and why there were so many of them employed. (see here).Dr Rosalie David in her book: The Pyramid Builders of Ancient Egypt: A modern investigation of Pharaoh’s workforce. writes:‘There are different opinions of how this first period of occupation at Kahun drew to a close. … The quantity, range and type of articles of everyday use which were left behind in the houses may indeed suggest that the departure was sudden and unpremeditated.’ Significantly, these slaves suddenly disappeared, and traditional archaeologists do not know why. It is hardly normal for slaves to suddenly take off en masse, but Dr David wrote, ‘There are different opinions of how this first period of occupation at Kahun drew to a close. … The quantity, range and type of articles of everyday use which were left behind in the houses may indeed suggest that the departure was sudden and unpremeditated.’Sir Flinders Petrie and Rosalie David could not understand the reason for their presence in Egypt because they clung to the traditional dates for the 12th dynasty of Egypt. These are from about 1990 to 1785 BC, whereas the biblical dates for the Israelite presence in Egypt would be from about 1660 to 1445 BC (1 Kings 6:1).David Rohl and David Down, possibly others have explained why, see here.
