There can be severe social consequences to leaving your religion behind, but many continue to do it, spurred on by a desire to live and learn independently. Taz Ali meets the people who’ve used their freedom from faith to discover themselves for the very first time – and often far later in life than the rest of us

I saw this yesterday and thought about sharing it in a post. I also know people who have left that organisation.

I was once in a cultic, false religion that demanded blind obedience and acceptance of all that came from its Geritol-laced leadership in Salt Lake City and the local stakes, with some of the leaders teaching us crying while divulging their not knowing if they were ever going to make it to whatever contrived level of Heaven they believed existed, even though none of those levels exist. Their Christ is nothing more than a fabrication of the founder who is now long since dead to this world and who also NOW knows the truth of his error, along with his comrades awaiting to be joined with their bones to stand before the Lord in the Great White Throne Judgement to then pass on into everlasting torment for all those who died not believing in the death, burial and resurrection on the third day of the true Christ Jesus.

Raymond Victor Franz was a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah's
Witnesses from October 20, 1971 until his removal on May 22, 1980, and
served at the organization's world headquarters for fifteen years, from 1965
until 1980.

Mr. Franz resigned, and stated that the request for his resignation, and his
subsequent dis-fellowshipping, resulted from allegations of apostasy.

Following his departure, Mr. Franz wrote a book titled "Crisis Of Conscience"
relating his personal experiences with the Watchtower Bible and Tract
Society, along with his views on Jehovah's Witness teachings. It's a bit
expensive in print form, but might yet be heard audibly for free on YouTube
and/or available as a free pdf download.

Mr. Franz's book, and his interviews, are helpful aids for people wondering if
they made the right decision leaving the Society's fold. It's also helpful for
people thinking about becoming a Jehovah's Witness but reserve some
doubts as to whether they'd be making a really big, life-changing mistake
not easily corrected.

NOTE: Mr. Franz passed away in June of 2010.
