Many of us search for our true identity. Some think the message of Christ as life is ridiculous because it is so simple.
Regardless of what someone may think the true self is growing up in Christ. Your true self now is Christ in you, expressed as your creation. You are very unique in your creation, there is only one of you, someone said thank God :-).
You were created with the gifts and talents and are very unique to the Father.
He created you exactly the way he wanted you. Most think, I'm not really talented or have gifts. The truth of the matter is you are these things and more.
Most of us always see ourselves as something less. Sin that entered in from the beginning left us as sinners by nature thinking we were no good, worthless.
So dont fret those that walk around head held high seemly having conquered the world. They have the same thing going on in them telling them their no good.
That is what the sin-nature does, and for the believer who has a new nature these things will carry over into the new life in Christ.
The plan of God in creation is for the believer to express Christ that is in them as they are, or through their creation.
You have heard the term "be yourself." This is the only time to be yourself, you need to know who you are, Gal. 2:20.
How does this all happen, look at these scriptures.
1Cor. 2:16

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
Philippians 2:5

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

In another place Paul said to put on the mind of Christ. Paul said if your mind does not become compatible with the Christ in you, then Christ will never be manifest through you.
Jesus expresses Himself through our soul--our mind, will, and emotions.
You need a gospel that will change your mind about who you are, and the gospel of Grace will do this for you.

Good to remember that true faith involves an inner change which begins at the new birth (John 3) and that there should be evidence of the believer growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3).

We are many different people during our lives, not just one. Many during the time we are unsaved then many more after we are saved, we go from faith to faith each major event making changes to us. The you of today would not know the you of back then.

Growing in grace and the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ makes large changes in our entire being. He is ever refining, molding, Shaping and sanctifying us through the fires that we are made to walk through.

Philippians 1:6 KJVS
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

It's too easy to get lost in the paradoxes of the biblical message. There is a school of thought that says...we are already there...we already have all we need. Peter affirms this in his second epistle. Yet Peter goes on to say that we must add to the faith...and holy nature...a list of things, things that WE are to provide through being teachable and humble. In fact if we do NOT add these things then we will stumble and fail.

Hence the importance of not jumping to quick conclusions or assumptions in anything that concerns God. It is God who judges and justifies. We are to live in a way that pleases Him.

Human reasoning and concerns quench the Spirit. There is more to following Christ than meets the eye. We need to look deeper into the whole counsel of God....and include the paradoxes and mysteries, if we want to avoid self-delusion.

While we have the ability from God to move we cannot stand still in the things of God. To stand still is to stagnate and die.
