I am a Christian and have been for almost 13 years now. I recently started on a new career path as a life model, posing nude for art students between the ages of 16 to 75!

I see my work as a privilege, I get to show people that although I do not have the perfect body I am happy with it. I get to see students change from drawing stick men to drawing fabulous pieces of art. I also find that people are more open to talk in the class about their own bodies and inhibitions.

I believe that God made us naked and that it was the fall that made us, embarrassed and shameful.

I get to pose and during this time, I pray for the students, meditate and also sing worship songs in my head. Not only does this help me build up my relationship with God but it also helps the poses fly over!

One of my friends at church (who is also a christian) is an Art tutor so we decided to join forces and run a life drawing class for the community.

The place where our church meets is a community hall so we booked that up. We have been told by the church that perhaps we should have thought of somewhere else to hold the course as “this is where church meets.”

I know my own views on life drawing and modelling and know that in my heart its what God wants me to be doing. However it appears that my church doesn’t agree that I should be doing it or even running the class.

Just wondering what you all think?

Of life drawing classes?

Or even if a Christian Church should be supporting such a class?

Or holding a class in the same building that a church meets in? The church won’t be there at the same day or time the class would have the building all to themselves. The building gets used for all sorts of community uses from Fayres, Pantomimes, Free Mason Meetings, Bowling, Parties etc

Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed? (See Acts 19:2, 8:12-16)

To be sure, see Acts 2:4, 33, 39; John 3:6-8.

If your chuch meets at a community hall then surely it is just one of several groups that meet there. It doesn't have the right to stop you unless it owns the building. In the UK some churches don't like Yoga and Tai chi to be taught in their halls, which is fine, that's up to them it is their hall, but if it isn't then they cannot stop you.

If someone wnted to do life drawing at my church hall, that would be OK, but if they wanted to do it in the actual church and near the altar where the body and blood of our lord are made present in the eucharist then that would not be proper. I know though that what you are doing with the bet intentions and if the building is not a church building then I can't see a problem.

Well I will tell you what I think, as people here will atest to I do speak my mind, nothing personaI not a judgement,
I think you have much to think about
I dont think you are behaving much like a christian, not because of the nudity initself persay ...
but all I hear here is what you think, what you feel, what you think is OK for you ..
but as Christians we need to be concerned with what God says, not what we as flesh beings think.

We are as christiansare supposed to set examples in all we do ..It isnt about whether you find this right or wrong ..
Its what feelings it stimulates in others ..If your actions cause another to sin you are held responsable in part this is the meaning of this verse
1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
This isnt about jewlery or God playing fashion policeman ... In those days this was the dress of a harlot or one trying to lure men into sin ....

If in doing this posing you inspire lustful thoughts in others you have part in causeing them to sin. This should be a serious consideration for a Christian ...

I have to agree with Christina; the very same verse, I Timothy 2:9, came to mind when I read this thread. While I know it's not going to be the popular thing to say here, there has to be a line. I'm not going to condone or condemn here because your true thoughts are between you and God. However, I will caution that things like this take folks into rough waters. While the church is not just the building, it is God's house and a place where his rules are to be obeyed.

Note that regardless of what you believe about the sin in the Garden of Eden, God clothed both man and woman. There is a reason for this, and admiring the bodies of others is not it. Recall Matthew 5, adultery is even thinking the thought. As a Christian we are not to be enablers, that excuse will simply not fly when that judgment day comes.

Note that like Christina, I'm not here to condemn or personally attack you. I just think this needs to be approached prayerfully and looking at it from the perspective of God, not what makes one feel good.

This is wild, absolutely wild. There has got to be at least a hundred brothers out there, some no doubt married, who had been bound up in Satan's hands through pornography, just waiting for this to catch on. I think every local church should have one of these "classes", that way the hidden adultery of the heart in lust and infidelity can fester and grow and totally decimate the walks of us weaker men seeking to serve God.

I am certain that the christian women whose husbands are unable to relate to them because of sexual perversion in their men's lives applaud this idea. They would have a moving target to attack when their hearts are bleeding from the lack of intimacy and love with their husbands, who aren't able to give it because their minds stay twisted and diseased.

If I had a teenage son, I'd throw him right in there, so he could see how wonderful the naked female sister is, and start to look at all women that way. If he became overly excited, I would just tell him. "settle down and be spiritual", believing that his better side would take over his natural inclinations and physical frustrations.

Koshka, if this wasn't so ridiculous, I would get serious with you. But hammerstone and others have done that. Let me just say, "I can lay a judgment on this one", and I pray that God takes you in and out of this one in a hurry, before the enemy destroys the any more of the ones who come into contact with this "class/drawing" deal you got going.

Thank you for the replys.

Tallman, Yes i have shortly afer i became a christian.
Templar81, if the church owned the hall i would not have the class there as i don't think it would be right.
Christina, My husband and I prayed a lot before i started doing life drawing at all and asked that if it was what i should do then for doors to be opened to it, if not then to show me the path he wants me to go. This is where i am now.
Fivesense, Life drawing has nothing to do with porn at all. if someone at college/work/classes giggles, laughs or starts using inappropriate laguage or body language they would be thrown out and told never to come back. The classes are for fine art student and those wanting to learn about the human form.

I'm a Christian for over 35 years, a teacher in the body an also a lover of figure art most of my life, I'm a professional photographer and draw as a hobby. Now no one has teh right to paas judgement on this woman or anyone else on an issue like this. None of us can say that God hasn't given her the freedom to be a life model. Personally I wouldn't use the same building where church services are kept for life sessions as a matter of best wisdom. My sister many will not understand whay as a Christian you are a life model, if Christ through teh Holy Spirit gives you the freedom and si using you to reach persons who normally don't go church by you being a model...keep doing it just use wisdom.
