In the Old Testament; God could not deal with man by his nature (the nature of God is a father nature), not as he does today because of the cross. He handled man by their nature in the Old Testament, or knew what was in man. What was in man? It was a Satan inspired nature, the same nature the unregenerate have until this day. You do not get out from underneath that sin nature. That nature is still as Romans 7 declares! Until death do you part.
The death to the sin nature happens in Christ. When Christ died on the cross the sin of the world that was placed upon him at that very moment he hung on the cross, when he died that sin nature died with him. Adam died - all in adam are dead as Christ - right now. According to scripture all in Adam were in him.
14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
15 and that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. - 2 Corinthians 5:14-15.
It is like a rose, when they are cut off to be placed in a vase of water, they are still alive or at least they look like they are alive, because that sinning nature can still manifest itself because death of that nature is in Christ and you have to be in Christ before you can be delivered out of bondage from the sin nature. But they have been cut off from their life source. It is 'The Walking Dead. Paul calls it; this body of death, in Romans 7. It has been cut off from the life source, be it the death life that was provided through the garden according to the 'one man sin' in Scripture.
All in Adam are dead as Christ, the whole world is dead in Christ, on the cross. The difference between the born-again believer and those that are still in the world with an unregenerate spirit is the born-again are in Christ by a birthing. Even though the sin nature was crucified at the cross, the sin nature is still walking around manifesting itself as it always has.
All you have to do is look in the world and you see the manifestation of the sin nature. You cannot see nature, a spirit, but you see the results of it. You cannot see the Spirit of Christ that is in you, but you can see the results of it ; the fruit of the Spirit is the result of the God nature which is in Christ now, and in you by a birth.
That sinning rose, we will call it, is cut off at the cross but still manifests itself just like the cut rose. The only life there is is in Christ, other than the death life that has been cut off. Though it is a life - you do not want to call it a life; that is no life to live and we all have lived it because we had no choice. Believers must see this all happens by a birth.
We must interject at this point; that human beings are not a nature. Human beings have a nature but the human being was created in the image and likeness of God, a living soul. With the ability to contain - nature - life - death - Christ - evil - so on.
What is the image and likeness of God? You are Triune - body, soul, and spirit. The living soul is the way you were created as a unique individual, and your uniqueness expresses the spirit. Simple straight to the point but gives thought to what is 'the image and likeness of God.' Also what was the living soul, it gives thought to to the idea that you are one of a kind, unique in every way possible for expression in this world. Christ will manifest himself through you as you. It will look like your uniqueness, but it will always be him living through the creation, your unique creation. That is the only way he can manifest himself in the world.
What is soul? soul is the manifestor of spirit. You are expressing spirit when you live by the Spirit, and according to scripture - walk in the Spirit - walk in the light as he is in the light. It is in the creation of man that we can contain a spirit. Important that you see Adam was not created a Living spirit, he was created a Living soul.
