Logos and Rhema words

Going through a fiery trial at the moment, and I was looking up "deliverance" in scripture when I came across this :


"You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you." 2 Chronicles 20:17 NIV


Now I know logos is the inspired word of God..... But when it comes to rhema, I don't understand it totally.

Is this passage a rhema word for Judah and Jerusalem only ? Or can I apply it to my life as a rhema word ?

Or because it was not uttered to me personally, is it logos to me ?

The Logos is the spoken word of God which He spoke in the beginning by which His Son was begotten. John 1:1-3. But the Rhema is God's word which He speaks through the Spirit for a particular season. A word in due season. Prophets, Apostles, Evangelists, etc, speak the rhema word by the Spirit.

Only a head's up. O Logos "The Word" is "the only Begotten Son which is in the bosom of the Father (Jn.1:18). "The Logos" is a title for the Godman Christ that is peculiar to John and is used by him alone. Co-equal with that of the Father.

Gidday Laid, Im sorry your going through a firey trial, I pray whatever it is it pans out in your favour.

Now, when it come to Gods word we need to remember its Gods voice to us be it OT or NT God can communicate to us using both.

If that was a scripture you looked up then best to read it in context and find out whats been going on around that particular passage (what was happening, who was it said to and why) and then take that context and bring it in to the now (How could this relate to modern times and how). Then you will be able to find within the context how it may appliy to you.

If the scripture is one that came to mind after or during prayer, then it is a direct revelation from God and can be taken to apply to you situation directly, regardless of the original context, you will be given understanding of how that scripture applies as soon as you receive it, it can be a whole scripture or a partial scripture.

However if your simply studying you bible and you come across something like that and you get the feeling that this is a message for you, then go with it, we often try to second guess what God tells us because we think maybe we just see what we want to see. But Gods word both OT and NT is his voice in our lives, it as applicable today as the day it was written, I mean look at the story of Adam and Eve in the garden, there is a wealth of very applicable insight in the earliest story ever told. It all relates.

IIChron.20:17 The Lord's answer (God the Jahve - the Lord) came by God the Holy Spirit in v.14 promising miraculous assistance to the king and people by coming upon Jahaziel. Always have enjoyed this area. Wait till you meet my Big Brother, God the Pre-incarnate Jesus loosely speaking in IChron.21:12, etc., ie, plays hardball with the whole domain of Israel.

The point of learning context is the most important thing when reading and learning the Bible. It is more apparent in the NT which things would apply to you as it is in the old because of the OT impetus being directed at Israel. The NT however does teach that all the promises made about Jesus and those who accept Him are for us. Acts 13:34 (NIV) is an example.

Yes, I have been reading the promises I find in scripture in context. But that still doesn't help my understanding. I may be going through the exact same thing as someone in the bible, but that may not mean that God's Rhema word to them in their instance, is a Rhema word to me in mine. I mean, isn't that the very essence of Rhema ? For someone, from God Himself, at a difficult time ? I feel like that would be ripping off someone's skin, placing it on me, and calling it my skin.

So God's promises are still kind of a mystery to me.

I have no problem with John 3:16, for God spells it out so that even someone such as myself can understand : For who so ever.......

Only because I see the antichrist stocking that poor little dog, ie, we have a small one too that licks the feet of burglars while they are robbing me blind while I'm gone. Jn.3:16 sums up the entire gospel in one lovely sentance for those that undergo a "born anew" experience in light of Jn.3:3, 5.
