I have said on numerous occasions that when we sin, trouble enters our lives - therefore we are better off not to sin. But some object, claiming that the reason we shouldn't sin is because God disapproves. Okay, let me ask you a question:

Let's say you live on a busy street, and your next door neighbor has a big tree next to the sidewalk, and a branch is sticking out so that people have to walk out into the busy street to avoid running into that big branch, thus endangering their lives. How do you get your neighbor to cut down the branch? Do you say, "God disapproves," or do you say, "Someone might sue you for a lot of money if someone gets killed"?

All sin breaks down to selfish actions that hurt others. It is like the US constitution, you are free to do whatever you want so long as what you do does not infringe on the rights and freedoms of others.

Adultery, Theft, Murder, Bearing False Witness, and even not helping other in need shows a persons selfishness. I think that is the basis God judges on.

Yes, but is the average person more motivated by a wish to do good, or fear of punishment if they don't? Did your parents ever have to discipline you?

We obey the commandments and therefore don't harm others because we love them and don't want to see them suffer or hurt. That is the love that the holy ghost blesses us to have.

Jesus was addressed as "Good Teacher." He said, "Why do you call me 'good'? No one is good but God alone." (Mark 10:17-18)

Are any of us so good that we would have turned to the Lord without some discipline?

I think that is a personal question that only God can answer. Everyone is different and created different. God knows how to direct us to love one another. No I don't think everyone is stubborn towards God.

But we've all sinned.
