Matthew 10:5-42 KJV
5) These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6) But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7) And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8) Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
9) Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
10) Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
11) And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
12) And when ye come into an house, salute it.
13) And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14) And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
15) Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

These are the disciples evangelizing Israel.

16) Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17) But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18) And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
19) But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
20) For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

These are the Apostolic times.

21) And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
22) And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
23) But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

The 144,000

24) The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.
25) It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
26) Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
27) What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
28) And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
29) Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30) But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31) Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
32) Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33) But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
34) Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35) For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36) And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
37) He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38) And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39) He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

The great tribulation

40) He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
41) He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
42) And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

I don't think I can get free food. If I do that, but I haven't tried it doesn't mean it's impossible. I just don't understand it.

Jesus just gave them temporal instructions, hands on application to practice missionary work, still apprentices, journeyman if you will. Like new doctors must spend time in residency, monitored, before they achieve independent status. The disciples came back exhausted. They faced over-whelming demands, failures, persecution, and weakeing of faith as with the problem of the demon possesed person they couldn't get rid of. Then their Master gave them peace and they rested and more teaching. They needed to fast in the case of the demon possesed man. They got their feet wet and realized it would be physically and spiritually draining at times but Jesus promised that they would have power from the Spirit, Who would help and comfort them on their journeys. Revitalized and encouraged, they were broken in, they knew what to expect.
BTW, symbolism did not hit me while reading this. No allusions to the GT. But maybe?

This is what we know about the disciple's return:

Luke 9:10 KJV
And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

Luke 10:17 KJV
And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

Much love!

These warnings came before their mission, not they they all occurred, nevertheless, there did face resistance as did Jesus.

"Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves..."

"But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues ..."
"And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake ..."
" But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another ..."
"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Matt.10

In Luke 9:40, Disciples failed to heal a demon-possesed man, then Jesus told them they needed fasting for this one.

So you think their first mission was a picnic, nothing but positive responses ... not bumps in the road?

The twelve, Scripture does not give us the info. The seventy, they returned with joy, successful in their mission.

Mark 6:
7. And He called unto Him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits.
30. And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told Him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

Looks like Jesus did send the 12 disciples in the same manner He sent 70 others(Luke10).

Shalom in the name of Lord Jesus Christ

Yes, I wouldn't think Jesus would give anyone a different agenda, nor do I think he would send them on a mild training mission without resistance. He did say He was sending them out among the wolves. Of course prior to Jesus death sentence there weren't serious death threats and orders to destroy their missions as there were after His death.

i get your point based on the truth, i believe since they were disciples or as 'lambs', Jesus kept them from facing such resistance, compared to the ones as 'sheep' faced in Acts of the Apostles.

But my respond is, besides the 70, Jesus also sends His 12 in the same manner.

But, are the 12 among the 70 Jesus sent, or the 12 were separately sent besides the 70 on the other hand?

The 70 were sent to cities where Jesus planned to go Himself, acting as messengers to prepare the people.
The 12 apostles held a higher, foundational role as witnesses, while the 70 performed a broader ministry. I would imagine after the Hilt Spirit came, those 70 disciples became bishops of 70 towns throughout the kingdom.

Scripturally, all of them 70 including the 12, received the same calling, and the 70 seem to be already with Christ and the 12 since the beginning.

There's no record of it, i cannot agree, sorry.

Where in scripture did it say the 70 were with Jesus from the beginning as long as the 12 disciples ... 3.5 years?
Their pre-death and resurrection mission message was obviously different than their post-Pentecost missions message. That's why I said it was likened to preview/preparatory trial run. Like an apprentice is still in training, the hands on experience gets his/her feet wet until the time when they are fully equipped to the job. The adversity was certainly at a different level later on too.

In the day of Pentecost, Matthias was chosen among who to replace Judas ?
Several women and a few men from the start, then gradually the number of followers increased later on to 120. Gathering thousands was no problem.

Matthias was chosen among ones who were with the 11 disciple from the time of John the Baptist to the ascension of Jesus Christ.

There was only 2 of them appointed, am not sure whether there were more, but Jesus had many disciples.

In the Gospel according to John, there were many disciples of Jesus who turn their backs on Him, besides the 12 personally chosen.

Since they're called disciples, most probably they began discipleship like the 12 from the Sermon on the Mount and onwards.
