The Lord warned Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, “for in the day that you eat of it you shall die” (Gen. 2:17).
Both the man and the woman ate of the forbidden fruit—and they died.
Spiritual death ensued immediately in an estrangement from the Lord God
sin and death were handed on to subsequent generations of humankind: “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death spread to all because all have sinned” (Rom. 5:12).
The law of sin and of death constantly pulls us down like gravity (Rom. 8:2).
Jesus had the indwelling presence as the “life-giving Spirit”(God-1Sam 2:6 / Mark 10:18) (Life giving spirit -1 Cor 15:45 NLT),
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God did away with the old humanity (sin and death) and began a new humanity (Life). “One has died for all; therefore all have died” (2 Cor. 5:14).
Christ made atonement partly so “he might create in himself one new humanity” (Eph. 2:15).
Jesus was both “the last Adam”(in his death) and “the second man” (in his resurrection) (1 Cor. 15:45, 47).
“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit (life giving Spirit / The Holy Spirit) that dwells in you” (Rom 8:11).
