Romans 7:1-5,
1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
If you are going to be a Christian you will have to give everything up that made you a you. If you are going to be a Christ-person you will have to give up everything that made you a you. You see it was always the old sin nature that caused you to do something to be somebody. Have you been aound those that have some accomplishments in life, most are surely quick to point out their finer points in what they have done to be somebody in this world.
It's a normal reaction to feeling they have made it or making it, that is a good feeling, it keeps the world going round and round. To the born again, they cannot be anymore than they already are with Christ in them. They are the Bonafide offSpring of God the Father. You are at the top, you are the best, but still deceived at times thinking you must do something to be who you are. Living apart from who you are is what Paul calls spiritual adultery in Romans 7:3. That's the trick, that is the lie, it's hard for you to quit doing what you have always done to be who you are. Who you thought you were was a lie anyway so it should not be to hard to give up, you would think.
As mentioned; the old man syndrome will be your nemisis all the days of your life. Who did I think I was? You have always had the feeling that you were just a self-unto-self, just a me alone, with no other attachments. But thank God for the scriptures that beg to differ. You have never been alone, you were made in the image and likeness of God and that was distorted in the garden. Not done away with but needing repaired to get it back on track so to say. Since Adam, you have been dependant on your nature. It was your nature that has caused you all the trouble, not your creation. We were held responsible because we partook of the sin nature and expressed it's bidding but that was not you.
More to come!
