look at John 3:18......................[Jhn 3:18 KJV] 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
There is nothing about the cross here, only to believe on his name...............to believe on his name was to only believe that he is Christ the Son of God ...............([John 20:31 KJV] 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.)
I believe John 3:16 to believe on the Son of God, I believe he is Christ the Son of God but also the cross which being missing doesnt make it the best salvation verse

Your only hope is to run to the Lord Jesus Christ and pray to be set free from the deception you are under.

According to Jesus the Law of the prophets ceased with the coming of John the Baptist
Luke 16:16
The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
People can argue all they'd like, but Jesus is saying New Covenant teaching started with John the Baptist

Paul is not the only one, who had to have the Gospel revealed to him, we also need to have truth revealed, or it's just dead doctrines. We must experience God, and have a personal relationship with Him

@Doug, just two verses before John 3:16, JESUS is Declaring Torah Truth to the rabbi Nicodemus that HE must be put to death on the Cross in order for men to be Saved.

The cross is not in John 3:16 is it?
Scripture has this to say about Christ's redemption by the cross:
[1Co 1:17-18 KJV] 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
[Gal 6:14 KJV] 14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
[Eph 2:16 KJV] 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
[Col 1:20 KJV] 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, [I say], whether [they be] things in earth, or things in heaven.
That doesnt put the cross in John 3:16 which is the power of God for our salvation
If you want, then use John the Baptist and the twelve apostles for your gospel
The death by crucifixion and the resurrection of Christ can be found in the scriptures of the old testament prophets, but not the full meaning of it.
Isaiah speaks of Christ's death................[Isa 53:5 KJV] 5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed............this was only for Israel's sins
[Heb 9:15 KJV] 15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions [that were] under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Hebrews above says Christ died to redeem Isarel's sins committed under the first testament
[Mat 26:28 KJV] 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Jesus said the remission of sins was for the many not ALL
[1Ti 4:10 KJV] 10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
Paul reveals Jesus is saviour for ALL not just the many which was only Israel
[1Ti 2:6 KJV] 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Again a ransom for ALL.........it was not testified until Paul

EXACTLY Doug,
In John 3:14-16, the Lord Jesus Christ DECLARES this EXACT TRUTH = the Son will be crucified
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The Cross is right in front of you in John 3:16
I presented you with scripture to clarify the cross in prophecy
I never heard anybody who used John 3:16 to refer to those surrounding verses
You cant get around the fact that the cross is not in John 3:16 no matter how you want to insert it
I am not against the verse....... I believe in Christ for eternal life......I just say it's not a verse that best gives the gospel unless used properly, just not by itself
One last thought
You want to look at surrounding verses, fine, look at this one
[John 3:18 KJV] 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
This verse says he is condemned by not believing Christ's redemption by the cross........NO it doesnt, what does it say?.......he is condemned because he hasnt believed in the NAME
For eternal life Israel had only to believe that Jesus is Christ, the Son of God.................[John 20:31 KJV] 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Dont forget even the apostles didnt understand the death and resurrection of Christ...................[Luk 9:45 KJV] 45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.
