I have a triple whammy this week. I'm female, I am stuck with the flu, and I think the stress of being sick and overworked between home and kids and work is causing a flare up.

I am going to just go ahead and get buy the cart for flare up days. My question is how do I literally manage everything else and take care of myself so that I don't deteriorate without over exerting myself?

What goes on the cart?
Do I need another cart?
How do you do clean up when it's hard?

You know what, never mind I think, I did get the cart and after cleaning off my keepsake closest thing I could ever find to my childhood unicorn box, I now know what goes in the cart and I as a person need housekeeping - the house is fine.

I need it

Can the children help with chores? Can a trusted friend or family member watch the kids? Can a friend or family member help with chores or meals? Would meal prepping help?

Can you get a floor cleaning robot?

Don't be afraid to ask for help. Don't let it turn into an emergency. I am home full time and I still accept help with the babies. We all have our limitations. There's no shame in asking for assistance.

Don’t worry about chores…

Children…yes, “can be” great helpers when approached that they “are an asset, a great helper”…

Mommy sick or tired, or overwhelmed…Time to let the little kids “be” the doctor / nurse, take your temp, massage you, paint your nails, “read” you a story, draw you a picture, Etc.

Older kids, all know how to make a sandwich, microwave soup, fill a pan for a foot soak, etc.

Teen kids (should know) how to shop, bank, get the mail, carry out trash, prepare (the minimal mess) frozen meal, wash, dry, fold a load of towels, etc. (with no negative criticism) Not all day or complicated help.

Not forgetting… to thank and direct them to have some time for themselves to Play, Talk to Friends, watch a movie, etc.

And don’t promise “rewards”… Just do them thereafter with earnest thankfulness, praise and pride they hear and receive from you.

Balance.

You are prayed for. May strong blessing come your way.
Thank you, I am doing better. I cancelled the cart.

There was a bad flu going around. It seems like its made its way around and we're all done now.

I think my inflammation has been partly triggered by years worth of chronic stress and spent a few days just letting go of things.

I've made efforts to reduce the need for hyper vigilance on my part. I don't know if you've ever experienced this as a mom, but have you ever had a period of time where you've had to be extra hyper vigilant and then someone took the kids for a little bit and maybe your plan was to do something, but instead you just crash? Like your body realizes how tired it is and you are finally able to relax and go to sleep?

That's me today.

Im so glad you are feeling better and you got some rest!

Thanks for telling us here. It's amazing how we can operate on fumes and not even realize we've been past our limit. I respect your dedication to your household.

@Wynona…I know your kids are little… key is to be ahead of them…not the follower who is always reacting…it’s exhausting and frustrating.

We Had, baby, 2yr old, 4 yr old, and daily 2 yr old niece, and often 4 yr old neighbor to play…
Was fortunate to have a “playroom”, no toys in bedrooms.
Never waited for them to be “hungry”… never planned, shopping, appointments, during their naps/ calm, cuddle, movie, story time.

Invested in several kids cheap Dr kits…and also a real stethoscope, kids wrist watches, candy “pills medicine”… and rested while they took turns being “sick”… wrapping “broken arms, ankles”, in ace bandages, each-other, dolls, daddy, mommy…”patients”.
…no matter the chore… cooking….they had a low cupboard to climb in, bowls, pans, to play, put on their heads, roll around…
Outside, yard work, chop wood, rake, yep drug out barbie houses, dolls, cars, kids rakes, kids tool boxes, blocks, scattered all over the patio.
…clean up…more so asking, where does this go…rather than “telling” … can you get it back to “it’s place”? Good Job!
…they all had banks, (even niece and Neighbor kid)… and got a nickel, dime or quarter “for their helping in clean up”…
My kids got their “bank money once a year, before Christmas to spend on gifts, of their choice to give or for themselves”…first time spending was all about “them”…thereafter they experiencing not “Participating in Giving” … the change became evident of disappointment, no gift for their sibling, parent, g- ma, friend, teacher…and literally began asking for “jobs to do” to earn money.
We obliged!
“you” Sweep porch every day…”you” keep shoe pile by door in order…”you” gather silverware off table after supper…simple, no reminder, notice, praise, reward or not.
Laundry…? each kid had own “small dresser” we attached a Number to each drawer.
They would carry and put their own clean clothes, in the particular Numbered drawer.
Back and forth they walked getting each pile for each drawer. They Busy and occupied, as we sat relaxed.

Point… again Lead, be organized, and take a rest…if a kid is big enough to get a toy, clothes, shoes from a box, drawer, shelf… they are ready to be trained…the rewards of putting things back… out-way the frustration and wasted time of always looking for something.

Bottom line… kids are a Blessing and a Joy …
IF we are willing to invest our time IN “Them”rather then getting sidetracked and worrying about “Stuff,” to the point of exhaustion.

God bless you.

Glory to God,

I ran across this article today and I think this is 100% accurate. I'm posting for other people that might relate.

People with chronic pain reported higher levels of socially prescribed perfectionism, the sense of being judged and pressured by others. And in one of the two studies, they also scored higher on self-oriented perfectionism, suggesting they have an inner voice that demands constant flawlessness and performance. The researchers suggest this perfectionistic mindset may exacerbate pain by fueling stress, frustration and a relentless drive to “push through” rather than pacing activity in a sustainable way.

I definitely do that.
