When God tore the veil that covered the entrance to the Holy of Holies from the top to the bottom, Matthew 27:51, that signified the end of the Old Covenant the law and the Jewish religion (Judaism). Under the New Covenant God is present with his people by the Holy Spirit, Hebrews 8:10-13. The Holy Spirit is only given to those that believe and have faith in his Son Jesus Christ, Galatians 3:2. The Holy Spirit cannot be obtained by laws, works or religion. Paul said, "So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God" (which is the Gospel) Romans 10:17.

The New Covenant is a radical change from the Old Covenant of laws, works and religion. Under the New Covenant God's people live by faith in Christ and his Gospel. This is why Paul said, "The just (justified) shall live by faith" Romans 1:17. Living by laws, rules and religion is not living by faith. Nor is it living according to the New Covenant. All that continue under the Old Covenant of laws, works and religion are in denial of the New Covenant of Gospel, grace, faith and the Holy Spirit and are under the curse, Galatians 3:10.

The New Covenant is about Jesus and his Gospel, it is not about us. We are the beneficiaries of the Gospel, not the instigators. In the Gospel Jesus justifies ungodly sinners, Romans 4:5 and reconciles them unto God. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19. Making them complete in his self, Colossians 2:10. The self-righteous and the religious find this doctrine to be offensive. This is unfortunate because they disqualify themselves from being saved. Jesus said that he came into the world to save sinners, Matthew 9:13. Since there is none righteous, Romans 3:10, we all qualify.

When Jesus died on the cross that was the end and the fulfillment of the Old Covenant the law and the Jewish religion. Jesus is God's new Covenant and God's new creation. "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away (The Old Covenant) behold all things have become new" 2 Corinthians 5:17. Christians are new creations in Jesus Christ. Paul said that the Old Covenant of law, rules and religion is ministration of death, 2 Corinthians 3:7. I was told that this is why the Catholic priest wear black, black is a symbol for death.

A word of truth, truly stated.
