Of Men and Tyrants

Some time back I read a post that informed me that when the king James bible was translated the king gave instructions that the word “TYRANT” was not to be used. Naturally I was a bit taken aback by this so I decided to check it out. Using the strong’s concordance dictionary I did indeed find words that could be used as and translated as tyrant , the ones below.

H1368
גּבּר גּבּור
gibbôr gibbôr
ghib-bore', ghib-bore'
Intensive from the same as H1397; powerful; by implication warrior, tyrant: - champion, chief, X excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong (man), valiant man.

H5303

נפל נפיל
nephı̂yl nephil
nef-eel', nef-eel'
From H5307; properly, a feller, that is, a bully or tyrant: - giant.

H6216

עשÑוק
‛âshôq
aw-shoke'
From H6231; oppressive (as noun, a tyrant): - oppressor.

H8586

תּעלוּל
ta‛ălûl
tah-al-ool'
From H5953; caprice (as a fit coming on), that is, vexation; concretely a tyrant: - babe, delusion.

G5181

Τύραννος
Turannos
too'-ran-nos
A provincial form of the derivative of the base of G2962; a “tyrant”; Tyrannus, an Ephesian: - Tyrannus.

So naturally I did a word search to see if any of these words were in fact used in scripture and indeed they were, only they were transacted as valiant men or men of renown, etc. The context also showed why the king wanted that word left out. Interestingly enough this process was also carried out with other translations. Below are some examples.

Gen 6:4 There wereH1961 giantsH5303 in the earthH776 in thoseH1992 days;H3117 and alsoH1571 afterH310 that,H3651 whenH834 the sonsH1121 of GodH430 came inH935 untoH413 the daughtersH1323 of men,H120 and they bareH3205 children to them, the sameH1992 became mighty menH1368 whichH834 were of old,H4480 H5769 menH376 of renown.H8034

Gen 10:8 And CushH3568 begatH3205 (H853) Nimrod:H5248 heH1931 beganH2490 to beH1961 a mighty oneH1368 in the earth.H776
Gen 10:9 HeH1931 wasH1961 a mightyH1368 hunterH6718 beforeH6440 the LORD:H3068 whereforeH5921 H3651 it is said,H559 Even as NimrodH5248 the mightyH1368 hunterH6718 beforeH6440 the LORD.H3068

Of course it does not mention who Nimrod was hunting. Turns out it was other men that resisted him. And here comes the realization and the reason King James wanted the word covered over.

It turns out that when someone gathered other members of a tribe together to form a society they did not do it with enticing words but by bulling everyone into compliance. Subjection to Tyrannies appears to be the normal state of humanity. This follows in the laws of mammon and applications thereof, no wonder the king did not want this type of discussion breaking out. Hence the words are translated as great men etc. We see this to this day, everybody remains good little citizens because they fear what will happen to them if they do not. The reason the biggest thug get promoted to positions of authority over work crews. Men respect power more than the philosopher. The motivation is fear of consequences for non compliance. This is the reason Christ spoke out about the differences between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Heaven. The greater is to be the servant of all.

Mar 9:35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
Mar 9:36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
Mar 9:37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

Mar 10:42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
Mar 10:43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
Mar 10:44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
Mar 10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Now you know the reason for that teaching. Imagine how a dictator king can rule with that kind of expectation of him.
