Oils aint Oils! We've heard the term and I assume we understand its intent. I would further the idea and say 'Language ain't Language'
When we tell a joke or propose a riddle we are saying more than the literal meaning of those words. When I reflect on this I realise great slabs of our language (and it applies to every culture) is dedicated to metaphor. If and when this is not understood, jokes become out of reach, simile's are impossible and we find ourselves in a communication and blinkered desert.
Knowing what is meant is critical for wisdom or foolishness to be differentiated.
Jesus spoke in parables. Surely that highlights this?
Doesn't understanding the utterances, the intent and the history of the rest of Scripture require that we are not blind to this?
