To me it is saying that you can't judge by appearances (especially if you are also trying to judge by the world's standards).
Every so often there is a news report of an apparently penniless pensioner who left millions of pounds to charity in their will.
And a lot of people who seem to have so much in terms of worldly goods are actually up to their ears in debt.
