I've read the bible cover to cover and I'd like to start conducting my own thorough bible study at home with a good book or guide, looking for recommendations please, KJV or NASB

My favorite teacher is DR. Arnold Fruchtenbaum! He is a remarkable teacher and has written many manuscripts and books on Book studies as well as topical studies.

I would look around I have seen blasphemy in both the NKJV and KJV texts. I think you have to have God's direction to be clean from problems with translations in probably any of the translations. That usually is the Holy Ghost of God.

Exodus 32:14 And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

God does not ever do evil, God only does good, even if he's destroying people on the earth. That would be good of him also.
