Replacement theology is false both ways:

The Gentiles did not 'replace' the Jews as promised children of God, nor did the Jews 'replace' the Gentiles as uncircumcised strangers from God.

What has changed is the Old Covenant of the God of Israel, called by His name Jehovah, to the New Testament of the risen God of Israel, called by His new name Jesus:

And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." (Isaiah 62)(Matthew 1)

The change of name came, when the God of Israel come down out of heaven to become a man born of a woman on earth: He was the Redeemer come out of Sion.

And with the change of name, would come the change of the people to bear His name: Israel.

Israel after the flesh is now in name only, and the Israel of God after the Spirit is now by faith only.

The green olive tree called the house of Israel and of Jacob (Psalm 52:8) (Jerem 11:16), is now open to all to be a remnant elect of God by grace through faith of Jesus: whether uncircumcised Gentiles by nature, or uncircumcised Israel after the flesh.

The seed of promise was changed from that of flesh to that of faith, and the old seed of flesh joined the nations of the earth that know not God, by making themselves uncircumcision:

For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh.

The LORD God of Israel made circumcision of the flesh for Abraham and His born children by flesh, and the risen Lord God of Israel has made circumcision of heart in the Spirit only.

At the cross, that first covenant of the Holy One of Israel was broken by the seed of flesh and by Himself, when He died:

The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.The earth mourneth and languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed and hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their fruits. (Is 33:8-9)

The Lord God of Israel, Jehovah, no longer had any part in His covenant with day and night (Jerem 33:25-26), no more than any other dead in the earth, who have no more day and night: and so as prophesied, all the seed of flesh by Abraham, by Isaac, and by Jacob were cast away from Him, by their own doing: He was crucified to death from them on the cross, and they were made dead to Him as a fleshy seed of promise, forever:

They all made themselves uncircumcised on earth, when they all forsook Him at the cross, according to His own prophecy:

Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

And even they that were not blinded and confessed faith in Him, as the Promised Redeemer come out of Sion, still objected to His Word and did not believe:

But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

Not all were blinded, but none abide with Him to the end: they were all concluded in unbelief, and none were good, nor profitable, no not one. (Rom 3)

There was no 'flipping' of roles or 'replacing' of nations, but rather at the cross all were made uncircumcision without God, and none were His promised seed: the earth was void of the faith of God.

All old things of the God of Israel passed away with His death, and all His things are become new and of the risen God of Israel by His resurrection.

All born of flesh are uncircumcised on earth and know not God, and so all are not a people of God, except they repent and believe the everlasting Gospel of the risen God and Saviour, and become the people of God by promise after the Spirit, as was Isaac:

Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
