Why did John put, "This is the first resurrection" in verse 5 and not 4?

Rev 20:4-6

I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

5(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.

6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

John was not thinking of verse numbers when he wrote Revelation. Those are only reference markers for modern readers.

"But the rest of the dead..." is a parenthetical statement, just as you have written it, and parenthetical statements need not be chronological. Historicism teaches that the the simultaneous Second Coming and Rapture of the Saints commences this thousand year period which culminates with the return of Jesus and the saints to earth for the climax of history: the resurrection, judgement, and execution of the wicked and the creation of the new heavens and earth.

Verse numbers were added later and I don't agree with the person who did it. He also choose which verses would belong to a chapter and often times he broke up the chronological context. Example is Rev 19 and 20. Many of 19's verses belong with the verses in 20.

Lord help us. ewq, Rev 20:4-6 is referring to the 1,000 year reign with Christ in future time. Read Isa 11 and learn something.
