1 Thessalonians Four:13-18

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15For this we say unto you by the word of the LORD, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the LORD shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16For the LORD himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the LORD in the air: and so shall we ever be with the LORD. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Great passage, which links in with the Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11.26) 'till He come'...

or if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
Many Christians are unaware that it is the Resurrection/Rapture which is described in this passage, not just the Rapture. So unless this passage (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) is tied into 1 Corinthians 15:35-58, and particularly verses 51-54, we will not see the full picture.

Therefore to summarize what is being revealed, here is the sequence of events:

1. At the Resurrection/Rapture Christ brings with Him all the saints which are presently in Heaven, i.e. their souls and spirits. This event is neither announced nor expected. He comes "as a thief in the night".

2. He descends from Heaven with a shout -- a summons -- while Michael the archangel blows "the last trump" ("the trump of God"). Thus all the saints are being summoned to Heaven. This trumpet has nothing in common with the 7th trumpet of the 7th seal which announces the 7 vials of God's wrath.

3. First of all the saints from Heaven receive their immortal, glorious and glorified resurrection bodies. And are immediately met by the Lord "in the air" (Christ does not descend to earth).

4. After that the saints which are alive on earth at that point are perfected, transformed, and given immortal, glorious, and glorified bodies. They are also called "spiritual" bodies since they can ascend to Heaven in a flash, and they are also incorruptible (flesh and bones, not flesh and blood. Jesus had a resurrected body of flesh and bones).

5. They too are taken up supernaturally. "Caught up together" with the other saints. Then all the saints go to Heaven with Christ and remain with Him for the Marriage of the Lamb.

6. This is also a picture of the divine Bridegroom -- Christ -- coming for His perfected Bride -- the Church. This is all supernatural and takes place in nanoseconds. Christ does not send His angels to accomplish this stupendous event. He comes personally as He promised in John 14:1-3.
