Prayer changes the hand of God and the mind of the one being prayed for.

The Holy Spirit by the hearing of the word of God is the only one who can do this work.

Maybe listen to an audible reader of the word when he is around. You will benefit also.

There are many who refuse to believe God and yet the Spirit has changed their course in life.

There is only Jospehus (that I know of), that is one secular writer for the existence of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was born just a few years after Yeshua was crucified. He lived in a inter-testimonial period of time. I do not think you can convince anyone of anything, they have to decide for themselves in the end. It seems from the beginning of Genesis, to the end of Revelation it is all about "faith."

I would do two things.
1. Show him that historians, even atheist historians, believe that Jesus 3xisted.
2. Ask him to demonstrate why he does not believe Jesus existed.

A third thing is to ask your minister why he has not taught you about the apologetics of Willialm lane Craig, of Dr g Habermass, or of the coldcasedetective, or about Lee Strobels series of books ' The Case for.... '

The simplist might be get Strobels book the Case for Christ, read it and then discuss the historical facts in it about Jesus.

The doctrine that Jesus endorses, is the doctrine of Ray Comfort: sin (the ten commandments), repentance (the conviction of the Holy Spirit), and substitution (of Christ's sacrifice, for our sin).

The scriptures this doctrine are based on are: "whoever sins is the slave of sin", "unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish", and "the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many" (from memory, the gospels)

An atheist that doesn't think he sins won't repent, an atheist that doesn't repent won't accept sacrifice and an atheist that won't accept sacrifice won't change.

("these things are impossible with men, but with God all things are possible" pray!)

Hello Rheeder, first off (since I see that you are a new member here), WELCOME TO CB :waves:

As far a convincing atheists of the existence of Jesus Christ, that, by itself, shouldn't be hard, since He is an historical figure. Convincing an atheist that He is God may be a tad harder however ;)

Perhaps the general revelation from God about Himself is the place to begin :IDK: .. e.g. Psalm 19:1-6; Romans 1:20, as I would think it necessary for an atheist to first come to grips with the idea that our EXTREMELY complex universe (even the very smallest/unseen parts of it, such as atoms and cells) could not have appeared ex nihilo, rather, that a Creator (who is also an Intelligent Designer) was required.

God bless you!! (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

p.s. - here are links to several short and informative articles that may be useful to you (from a theological and apologetical website that is worth remembering, www.gotquestions.org, as it is a GREAT place to receive quick answers to most of your theological questions, as well a place to begin a deeper study of a passage or topic).

edit: There seems to be a problem (hopefully a temporary one) with the website and the links below.
