Sin is not passed on to us, but death is.
How could Adam change his genes thoughts to make a child to disobey God just by thinking it ?
The wage of sin is death, they both go hand in hand, for all have sinned as written.
And sin nature is not in the genes, but "it" is a spirit of the Prince of this world that entered into the world by Adams sin.

Romans 5:12
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Ephesians 2:2
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

This verse below shows both the spirit "he" that is in the world, and the Spirit of God( "He") in us who are born again of His Holy Spirit.

1 John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Thanks InSpirit for confirming that sin entered the world through the sin of one man (Adam): 'Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned' (Rom 5:12 ESV). Yes, death came with that sin, but we must not minimise the fact that our sin nature is passed from person to person, starting with Adam.

We must note the context of Rom 5:12-21 (ESV) where Paul uses the Greek houtos, i.e. thus, in this way (Rom 5:12 ESV). Paul is here comparing Adam with Christ. Through Adam's sin, death spread to all human beings and 'all people sinned'. That is, when Adam sinned, God regarded the sinning of the entire human race in Adam.

We know human beings are guilty because of Adam's sin. This is confirmed in Rom 5:18-19 (ESV), 'Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous'. 'The many' refers to those who submit to Christ in obedience. He could not use 'all' because there are many, many who refuse to bow the knee of faith in Christ alone for salvation.
