I'm fasting because I want the Holy Ghost to abide inside of me always, rather than being in my presence during prayer or worship.Anything I should be aware of, this is my first time fasting. I'll be drinking only water (is tea okay?) and I'll be praying much. Unfortunately I have a lot of school and homework so I hope that doesn't bog me up too much.

Fasting can mean several things and has traditionally. In Catholic circles in the US, one regular meal a day with two smaller meals and no snacks in between is consider a fast. The rules are not binding on people with medical conditions that would be stressed, or the young (18-) or the old (59+). This type of fasting could easily be carried out for 40 days. Some people fast with only bread and water. Please know that some forms of fasting can have significant and long lasting health concerns, so you need to be careful and be sure others are aware you of what you are doing as this can be dangerous. If you are young and in school, and especially during exams I would not recommend any form of extreme fasting (water only for extended days or even bread/water) as your mental facilities will be severely impaired. Also suggest you speak with a doctor before you do anything that drastic if that is what you have in mind.May I ask how long you intend to do this?

1. I'm not Catholic, and I thank God I wasn't born in the Catholic church (no offense).2. I'm planning on drinking only water (is tea okay?) and some bread every other day.3. I'll do this until I cannot handle any longer, or I God grants me my wish/gives me a revelation.4. Why I'm doing this? Read the first post.Psalm 56:1-41. Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.2. Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.3. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.4. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

actually right now I just started a media fast. going without TV, Games, books ( except for christian), magazines, and pretty much all internet except for this siteand I'll be off this site if it leads me to others. The last time I tried a fast like yours I got sick and almost fainted. There was boat races going on and I was only able to get one glass of water in and I was out the door. It was a really hot day, around 95 degrees, and pretty soon around five o'clock, 7 hours after my only glass. I was all white, dizzy, about to faint and without money. Thank God a friend bought me a mountain dew and a pizza which pretty much saved me from collapsing.I hope that doesn't happen to you.I'll be prayingyour brother in christ Ryan Fitz

That is really what a fast is after all, what it all comes down to. Deny yourself. Of course I don't doubt that fasting originated so that we could really bring ourselves to realize that without God, we are nothing. This is a practice that goes back to the earliest recorded Biblical times.

Media fast? I've given up all of that. Everything for Christ. Video games, Television, secular websites.I think I'm going to do a vegetable only fast. I'm a huge carnivore. And I'll only eat vegetables once or twice a day.

How long do you plan to fast? For me day#1 is a breeze, the evening of day #2 gets hard and day #3 is TOUGH! By then my body temp drops and I'm constantly cold.I fasted once for 4.5 or 5 days but that was for weight loss not spiritual growth/clarity/prayers heard.

I did the same thing for kind of the same reason. Except I consumed nothing, not even water. It was pretty draining and I was tempted more than I ever care to be again to break the fast and get some food!!

Go wakka My goal is to get to the point where I'm rid of all media. ( which is against out morales.)And when I'm your age I probably will be.a water only day is pretty much impossible for me most of the time for my family is a sit down and eat as a family everyday sort.and there also an " its important to eat three meals a day" sortand my mom, If she makes food and you don't eat it she's offended. So I tried to pull it off once this year and the results are above. I'm hoping I can get another shot at it.

I'm not doing it for fun. When was not eating anything funthe reasons I'm thinking of doing it with you is1. I need more self control, the sins whcih are killing me are all originate from the commands of my body, which right now I can't say no to. Hopefully this can help me gain control.2. I attempted it once for God and flat out failed ( granted for events out of my control but still) I want another shot at it, for I gave God a promise, and a promise to God needs to be kept.3. Basically we christians need to support each other Wakka. And by doing this fast with you I'll be supporting a fellow christian as you'll be supporting me. If you say no, its fine. I'll find a way to do it on my own. But I think this will be a great way to offer myself up to God, with a brother in christ.

To be honest I have the same problems and I get so angry with myself when I lose the fight against temptation! I know I can control it but I am just being weak! Last time I fasted it helped me alot with the issues I was having then and I think this would help me now. So if yall don't mind, I will join you two in your fast. And if yall don't mind I would really like to allow water during the fast, last time I denied myself food and water and the thirst really got me much quicker than I planned and by the second day I had alot of problems at school, I couldn't think of anything else and it really effected my ability to focus and to the enjoyment of my friends it had a large effect on my motor skills!

FollowerofchristI'm sure god appreciates your efforts but I think he supports me for saying thisDON"T GO WITHOUT WATER I think the stat is going without water for three days can easily kill you.and god doesn't want to lose you to a fast. that would be stupid. So seriously don't try that again. I'm waiting on a response from Wakka, but if he says yes I say you can come along. Just be careful Okay.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to go without water again. But I got the answers I was looking for. But if we do this I will just refrain from food not water.

Hey there. Just wanted to tell you that you could do a liquid fast, drinking only water, coffee, tea, broths, etc.;especially if you're one that gets light-headed easily due to lack of food. If you are highly active, have never fasted, or have any health condition, Dr. B.L. is right. You certainly need to be careful. NEVER go without water for days and days. That's a good way to end up in the hosptital with dehydration. I usually do the from 6 to 6 the next day or 7 to 7 so that you do have at least one meal for that day and part of your fasting time is sleeping. This is a good warm-up. I do this because I get headaches if I don't eat at least a little bit of something. Try different ways and see what you feel most honors the Lord for you, but doesn't make you feel like you can't function and that will draw attention to you. Read in Matthew 6 how fasting is supposed to be done in private as a commitment between you and the Lord. I hope it works out well for you.
