I saw a post today on SeniorForums.com titled "Song at your funeral" saying, Has anyone chosen a song to be played at whatever type of funeral you will have?.
I could not think of one I wanted, so I decided to write my own. This is the song I created; see what you think:
The Way Home
**Verse 1**
The room is still, the flowers fade,
Your picture rests beside your name.
We speak of years that passed too fast,
And wish somehow that time could last.
But every breath was borrowed air,
A gift from God who placed us here.
We came with nothing in our hands,
And leave according to His plan.
**Pre-Chorus**
What is a life, but morning rain,
A rising mist that fades away?
Yet in the silence, truth is known:
We were not made for earth alone.
**Chorus**
There is a way home through the Savior,
There is a door death cannot close.
Jesus has walked into the darkness,
And rose again to lead us home.
We do not hope in empty wishes,
We trust the blood He freely gave.
The arms that carried Christ from Calvary
Can carry us beyond the grave.
**Verse 2**
We chase the wind, we build our names,
We gather things we cannot save.
We hide from death and call it life,
While every heartbeat counts the time.
But love came down and wore our pain,
The spotless Lamb for sinners slain.
He bore the judgment we deserved,
And from the tomb His voice was heard.
**Pre-Chorus**
“I am the resurrection,
And I am life,” the Savior said.
The one who trusts in Him shall live,
Though for a moment he is dead.
**Chorus**
There is a way home through the Savior,
There is a door death cannot close.
Jesus has walked into the darkness,
And rose again to lead us home.
We do not hope in empty wishes,
We trust the blood He freely gave.
The arms that carried Christ from Calvary
Can carry us beyond the grave.
**Bridge**
So while the tears are falling,
And goodbye is all we know,
Hear the mercy of the Savior
Calling every wanderer home.
Not by the good that we have done,
Not by the prayers our lips have prayed,
But by His grace through faith alone,
By Christ, the truth, the life, the way.
One day the last tear will be gone,
The night will break before the dawn.
And those who sleep in Christ shall rise,
To see their Lord with opened eyes.
**Final Chorus**
There is a way home through the Savior,
There is a hope beyond this stone.
Jesus has conquered death forever,
And those who trust Him are His own.
So do not leave with only sorrow,
Do not let this moment fade.
Today, believe upon the Savior,
For He alone can save.
There is a way home through the Savior,
There is a door death cannot close.
And when this fragile life is over,
In Christ, we will be going home.
**Outro**
The flowers fade,
The years are gone,
But Christ remains,
And leads us home.
I could not think of one I wanted, so I decided to write my own. This is the song I created; see what you think:
