It's the apostles doctrine that is normative (Acts 2.42), not a hierarchy.

@Nancy never mentioned anything about "infallible men" in her post that I was responding to. Sooooo why would I give a bible verse about the infallibility of The Church?

If you want to discuss and have a bible study about infallibility we can. Do you not believe that the Holy Spirit will guide the Church to the Truth?

Aw, thank you PW! There does seem to be highs and lows on the forum. There has been big changes in my life recently which takes a huge chunk of my time each day. I miss being on here more often and hope, sometime soon I can be again. Plus, with all the many things I suddenly have to take care of, my mind is being sapped of mental energy, lol. Sometimes I have to read posts several times to get the gist and, just too tired to even fully respond to posts! Arggh! lol..anyhow-thanks for thinking of me and Helen...she is used to the peaks and valleys on here, lol. ♥

I can accept that. After all, you used scripture to make your point.

Soooo lets say the Lutheren’s swear up and down and by the power of the Holy Spirit that their Church Leaders, starting with Martin Luther, were “chosen”.

A few years later the Calvinist come along and swear the SAME THING.

How do I figure out who the Holy Spirit really chose?

    Curious Mary

The Holy Spirit does not relinquish power to men. So if Luther was directed by God to do something....that doesn't mean that people are to shift their obedience to Luther. Our obedience is to God. Christ is the only Mediator.

Luther is only useful to God as he is a catalyst to bring people into a direct relationship and dependence towards God.

So then we read that in Antioch the Spirit sent out Paul and Barnabas. Are we then to follow them? Or do we follow the example of ALSO waiting on the Lord to be sent in our turn?

So then The Spirit continues....or not...to lead the church.

I believe in submission to God by the Spirit....not to men. Of course the Spirit does use men...but these men point to the Spirit so that others too can be empowered and sent out into the world by the same Spirit.

Only God can commune with us inwardly. No man can take over that communion. So we encourage all men to that communion with God inwardly. What makes the ministry genuine is that the call to communion from God derives from THAT communion itself.

Well goodness. Now I can’t figure out what you are saying.

You said that “the bible is God choosing His own workers and minsters.” However NOW you are saying “the Holy Spirit doesn’t relinquish power to men.”

What are we to do with the decision at the Council of Jerusalem in Acts 15:28 when they said, “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us....”? Isn’t that the Holy Spirit relinquishing power to men??

Are you saying the Christian community didn’t have a “direct relationship and dependence towards God” BEFORE Luther? It has only been for the last 500 years that we have had that?

It takes a catholic to as soon they met as rulers of the Church. Especially when the bible records criticism of Peter for being unwilling to deal with the gentiles.

Historical fact he only wanted to deal with jews.

But I shouldn't be surprised when they erroneous claim Peter was bishop of Rome and died there when there's no historical evidence either claim is true. Only the catholic church makes that claim.

We are to submit to the Holy Spirit. No one controls God.
They were making sure it was ok with God. God happens to be all powerful.
I didn't say that. There have always been people...persecuted people that carry the real history of the church....God's church.

Oh goodness.....you write a lot of words but never say anything and what you do say contradicts what you said previously.

I apologize...I can’t continue this fiasco with you so there is no need for you to respond.
