I think there's a natural explanation, Kriss. I agree there is a smell to death and I think they perceive that. And it's just in their nature to hang around until death comes, like an automatic reaction waiting for their prey to die.Whenever one of my cats gets a bird or mouse, they actually play with it. Later on they fling the poor thing around and then just wait there couchant for awhile with the thing in front of them until its dead. They seem to sense when this happens and then they eat it if they are hungry, or put it on my doorstep for a "present" if they are not hungry!
