Romans 6:6 (NASB)
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;

Self and the body of sin are two different things. Self was crucified that the body of sin might be done away with..

The body of sin is the physical bodies we live in.. Which even after the fact of our old man (self) being joined with Christ in His death.. The members of our bodies, they still have passions and desires that want to have their way and be satiated... These are our lusts that war in our members that the enemy, sin, uses to respond to it’s thoughts and temptations... These desires and passions are still very much alive in us and it is they that we have died to...They have not died, as everyone who has ever tried to resist temptation can attest to....These passions, desires that we find in ourselves, they are that which needs to be overcome in us... For if these passions and desires were not in us, all the temptations in the world would be meaningless....For the temptations that come, they must find something in us that wants to respond to them or they would be powerless to effect our lives.....It is the lusts that still live in our members, it is they that would want to respond and still follow after these temptations when they come...

But God, has made a way that is fool proof, that works 100% of the time, against all the passions and desires of any and all types... He did not get rid of the passions and desires themselves... He got rid of us...By getting rid of us, these passions and desires we find still alive in us become powerless to effect the outward doing of the body... By putting us to death with Christ He got rid of the old owner of these passions and desires...We have died, not these passions and desires we still find alive in us...Which in scripture is called the body of this death or the lusts that still war in our members...Our salvation is by faith alone... From stem to stern by faith..By simply believing that we died when Christ died frees one from the body of their deaths or in other words, by believing into our deaths in Christ we are freed from those passions and desires that war against our souls..

We died with Christ on the cross, not the passions and desires we find still alive in us....We died they did not...This is why scripture tells us to reckon ourselves dead to sin... It is to the sin we find in us we are to reckon ourselves dead to... This reckon by faith is an absolute...With no versions or variations... It must be constant and immediate, a full time reckoning of ourselves dead to the sin we find in us...

For there is a new life in Christ waiting for all those that by faith would grab onto it...

For those that have been joined to Christ have crucified the flesh with it’s passions and desires...This did happen the moment one was joined to Christ at the moment of salvation...It can never be undone, now by faith do we access all the benefits of us being joined with Christ in His death...

Now as we grow in Christ the more we understand and appropriate our deaths in Christ the more of Him will there be and the less of us..

For by faith we are saved, by faith we grow, by faith do we live... For we have died and our lives are hidden with Christ in God..

Be blessed all as we grow in Him, Not me

We know that our old self [our human nature without the Holy Spirit] was nailed to the cross with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin.

We know that our old (unrenewed) self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that [our] body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective and inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin.

We know that our old self was put to death on the execution-stake with him, so that the entire body of our sinful propensities might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.

Now what is our response to be? Shall we sin to our heart’s content and see how far we can exploit the grace of God? What a ghastly thought! We, who have died to sin—how could we live in sin a moment longer? Have you forgotten that all of us who were baptised into Jesus Christ were, by that very action, sharing in his death? We were dead and buried with him in baptism, so that just as he was raised from the dead by that splendid Revelation of the Father’s power so we too might rise to life on a new plane altogether. If we have, as it were, shared his death, let us rise and live our new lives with him! Let us never forget that our old selves died with him on the cross that the tyranny of sin over us might be broken—for a dead man can safely be said to be immune to the power of sin. And if we were dead men with him we can believe that we shall also be men newly alive with him. We can be sure that the risen Christ never dies again—death’s power to touch him is finished. He died, because of sin, once: he lives for God for ever. In the same way look upon yourselves as dead to the appeal and power of sin but alive and sensitive to the call of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
