We shall not make graven images. A direction and commandment of God given to mankind thru Moses.
Exodus 20
And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Grave, graven, gravity of a situation. Those are terrorist displays. Christ's family and friends watched in tears and wept, as they were helpless to protect him under tyrannical old Roman rule. They cared for his body and placed flowers of love with his body. They found an honorable place for his body.
They are the family and friends of God and Jesus, the Fathers Son.
We are always welcome to join them in honoring him, lord Jesus, his father and their holy spirit of love.
The new testament honors the bread and wine in remembrance of his death. We proclaimed his death in taking the bread and wine.
1 Corinthians 11
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
Later God is introduced as alive forever more. He is the living God who sends his son in Glory and with clouds someday. We await his return. He provides life and secures life for us. His death cut off death and hell. He baptizes us with water, the holy ghost and with fire. He is a mystery and he is known to us in loving ways.
We also do not deny he is risen and proclaim he provides life and miracles of healing for us and his kingdoms. We proclaim his resurrection also and share his witness to others. We are not ashamed of him. That was the public image presented on the cross. We may see the love he had for us and has that he suffered for us that we may receive life from him, the risen lord together with his father and his holy spirit. We desire to be the sons and daughters of God.
John 6
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
