The Lord's opponents knew the Bible; but apparently didn't know how to
apply the Bible because according to Ps 82:6, they had just as much right to
call God their own Father as Jesus did.
"I myself have said: all of you are sons of the Most High."
And as for making himself out to be God, the same Psalm testifies that they
too were God.
"I myself have said: you are 'elohiym"
If I were to promote Jesus as God's unique progeny, I would point to verses
where the ancient Greek word monogenes defines their relationship; for
example:
†. John 1:14 . . So the Word became flesh and resided among us, and we
had a view of his glory, a glory such as belongs to an only-begotten son
from a father
The word "son" is an editorial insertion because monogenes indicates a sole
biological child of either gender. For example:
†. Luke 8:4-42 . . But, look! a man named Jairus came, and this man was a
presiding officer of the synagogue. And he fell at the feet of Jesus and began
to entreat him to enter into his house, because he had an only-begotten
daughter about twelve years old and she was dying.
†. Luke 9:38-39 . . And, look! a man cried out from the crowd, saying:
Teacher, I beg you to take a look at my son, because he is my only
begotten, and, look! a spirit takes him
Since monogenes always indicates a sole biological child rather than either
an adopted child or an honorary child, then the Word's relationship to God
gets sticky right quick because according to the laws of genetics: like begets
like. In other words; when human beings reproduce, they beget human; and
when bats reproduce, they beget bat, and when coyotes reproduce, they
beget coyote. When any form of life reproduces; it begets more of itself. So;
if God were to reproduce; He would beget God; viz: more of Himself.
How many human races are there? There is just one human race. We human
beings are not many human races as if God created more men than Adam.
No, all human beings are simply multiples of the one Adam. So it is with
God. His divine progeny isn't another God race; no, the Word of John 1:1-14
is simply a multiple of the one God; which is precisely why the Word
intrinsically merits all the worship, and service, and reverence that's due the
God name.
What I've posted here is neither new or unusual. Ancient rabbis were fully
aware of the multiplicity of the one God, and totally baffled by the apparent
existence of two Jehovahs in the Old Testament. So they decided that one of
the two was a sort of lesser Jehovah, and labeled it Metatron: the divine
being whose name is its master's.
