Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
1:2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
1:3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

Romans 15:16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

Paul was preaching the gospel of God; according to the scriptures, the law and prophets. The gospel of God was the progressive revelation of God concerning Jesus Christ. It progressively revealed the justification to eternal life which is in Christ Jesus. Promised by the law and the prophets, and found in scriptures.

It encompasses God's grace; God reconciling sinful mankind to himself; reconciling both heaven and earth in Christ.

Starting with Adam, by whom, sin entered, and death by sin. The gospel of God revealed the promise of a seed, which is Christ, for salvation. See Genesis 3:15

The gospel of God revealed the righteousness by faith from Abraham, who believed God when the gospel was preached to him. See Galatians 3:6 Galatians 3:8

The gospel of God further revealed the promised seed, Christ, to Abraham. Galatians 3:16

The gospel of God revealed Moses and the law. The law, which imputes sin, by which there is the knowledge of sin. The law, our schoolmaster, to bring us to Christ. See Romans 3:20 and Galatians 3:24

The gospel of God revealed that Jesus, our righteousness, would come through the seed of David, and the establishment of the everlasting kingdom and throne. See 2 Timothy 2:8 and Hebrews 1:8

The gospel of God revealed that Jesus, who is the righteousness of God, the promised seed, was in the midst of Israel and is the Christ, the Son of God and that justification to eternal life was given to those who believe on the name of Jesus. God revealed that Jesus would shed his blood, and die, for the new testament. See Acts 13:23 and Matthew 26:28

Paul would preach the gospel of God, in which, he proved Jesus is Christ, the Son of God from the scriptures. He preached repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. See Acts 9:20 Acts 17:3 Acts 28:23 and Acts 20:21

Paul fully manifested the gospel of God, which foretells, and reveals that Jesus is the promised seed that would be the Saviour, the Christ, and the Son of God. The gospel of God is the bedrock for the gospel of the grace of God, the gospel of Christ, for Paul's gospel to reveal the full accomplishment of the cross, and the grace of God, in Christ Jesus, that provides salvation freely by faith alone in Christ.

The gospel of God could be found in the prophets, what Paul taught of the mystery, revealed by Christ, was not found in the scriptures of the law and prophets.

The mystery, that God would reveal by Paul, was the salvation of the cross to all who believe, apart from Israel and it's covenants (Ephesians 2:16 2 Thessalonians 1:10 Ephesians 1:13 Romans 1:16 1 Corinthians 4:15 15:1). Revealed was the church, a new creature, the Body of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17 1 Corinthians 12:27). Revealed was all blessings in heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 2:6).

Hello @Doug,

For some unaccountable reason when I begin to read from the beginning of Romans chapter one, I get transfixed by these opening verses, and remain there for ages, considering and thinking about what is being said within them. They hold such truth.

- Paul declares himself to be a bond-slave, one who though free, places himself voluntarily back under the service of his Master, out of regard.

- He was called for the purpose of being an Apostle, a 'sent one', who performs the will of the One Who has sent him. Christ Himself is also spoken of as being an Apostle, having been 'sent' by God. He Himself only did and said what was given Him of the Father to do or say. He is said in (Heb. 3:1) to be the Apostle and High Priest of the profession of the heavenly calling ,i.e., 'The Bride'.

- Paul was separated unto 'the gospel of God': which is supplementary to 'the gospel of the Kingdom', being another aspect of it. It has to do with Christ risen and about to come again to restore all things( Acts 4:33), and characterises the ministry of Paul during the Acts period (see Acts 17:1-3, 7).

'And Paul, as his manner was,
went in unto them,
(the Jews)
and three sabbath days
reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Opening and alleging,
that Christ must needs have suffered,
and risen again from the dead;
and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you,
is Christ.'

(Act 17:2-3)

- This was God's good news concerning the Kingdom of God in it's wider aspect. He had sent the Lord Jesus Christ unto His Own, and His own had received Him not, but if they would now repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah, He would send Jesus, and fulfil all His promises to them. See Acts 3:19-21.

- So we see throughout the early ministry of Paul the hope constantly expressed of the Lord's return. For the door was open for Israel to come to repentance and receive the returning Christ.

* During the period covered by the book of Acts and including the early epistles of Paul, namely:- 1&2 Thessalonians; 1&2 Corinthians, Galatians, Hebrews and Romans were written in the light of the revelation, given both to Paul and the Twelve of 'The Mystery of Christ', which was searchable, being the subject also of the Old Testament Scriptures but requiring the revelation of God for it's manifestation (1 Peter 1:10).

'For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,
If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God
which is given me to you-ward:
How that by revelation
He made known unto me the mystery;

...... (as I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when ye read,
...... ye may understand my knowledge in
the mystery of Christ)
...... Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men,
...... as it is now revealed unto His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;'

(Eph 3:3b-5)
That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs,
and of the same body,
and partakers of His promise in Christ by the gospel:
Whereof I was made a minister,
according to the gift of the grace of God
given unto me by the effectual working of His power.
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given,
that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God,

who created all things by Jesus Christ:
To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places
might be known by the church
the manifold wisdom of God,'

(Eph.3:5-10)

* Two Mysteries.

- 'The Mystery of Christ', revealed to all the Apostles and Prophets of the New Testament including Paul: therefore searchable, because the subject of the Old Testament Scriptures; and,

- 'The Mystery', made known to Paul himself, which is not searchable (Eph. 3:9 & Col.1:28), not being the subject of the Old Testament Prophets, or of any other scripture other than the letters written from Prison by Paul, Eph. Phil. Col. 2 Tim. Titus and Philemon.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
