The Host of Heaven

2 Chronicles 18:18-21
Micaiah said, "Therefore, hear the word of the LORD. I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right and on His left. "The LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab king of Israel to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said this while another said that. "Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD and said, 'I will entice him.' And the LORD said to him, 'How?' "He said, 'I will go and be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' Then He said, 'You are to entice him and prevail also. Go and do so.'

Psalm 103:21 Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will.

Isaiah 34: 4 "And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree."

What is or who are the host of heaven? Why is the Lord called: Lord of host. and Captain of the host, and Captain of our Salvation? Are we part of the host of heaven?… all the host shall fall down? fall down where? as "the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree."

Highly symbolic language used in the verses of your OP.

God is the Lord of ALL the mighty people of the earth. This is not about a scene(s) of angels and spirits in the actual heavenlies.

God passed judgement on the rulers and completely destroyed them like in a rolling storm of many clouds – heavens rolling together as a scroll. Their power is taken away from them along with their people because of their rebellious -anti-God attitude. Their fate comes as a violent physical destruction as leaves thrown down off a tree – like in a hurricane.

In Revelation it points to this type of destruction as well.

(Rev 6:13) And the stars of the heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts her unripe figs when she is shaken by a great wind.(NEV)

We serve a military God. The "host" of heaven is the "army" of heaven. The spiritual realm is on a war footing. Spiritual warfare is very real. The angelic host is based on authority and ranking...just like an army. When we enter into the spiritual fight....we enter into a military order based on holiness. Our weapons are faith, hope and love.

Falling down means to fully surrender in worship. It means we let go of all our faculties to be reviewed and approved by God. Kind of like a general inspection his troops. But the level of submission is out of this world. ;)

Oh wow. Yes. :) See the fig tree shaken...see the leaf wither...


Man’s first attempt to cover his own nakedness and shame: Genesis 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

They knew they were naked and made themselves cover. But here we have a clear picture of what God will and has already done to man's attempt to cover his own nakedness and shame. Jeremiah 8:13 "I will surely snatch them away," declares the LORD; "There will be no grapes on the vine And no figs on the fig tree, And the leaf will wither; And what I have given them will pass away."'"
