The older shall serve the younger.

"And Jacob worshiped, leaning on his staff . . ."

Jacob couldn't stop wrestling with God, and God crippled him, so he limped the remainder of his life. And there at the end, he worshiped God, leaning on that staff, being crippled, he worshiped.

Much love!

This is a reference to Esau/Edom "serving" Jacob/Israel. And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly. (Num 24:18) And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went. (2 Sam 8:14)

God took away Jacob's strength, and made him weak.

Jacob worshiped God in his weakness.

Much love!

It is how we look at the context of the passage. God actually increased Jacob's strength to worship Him. Yes, Jacob walked with a limp, but the limp was Jacob's reminder that he had wrestled with God. Jacob always had a relationship with God, right from the time of his birth, and regularly interacted with God.

What some people see as a weakness, others will see that as a strength.

Jacob saw his life as being a pilgrimage with God for all his days.

Oh, that we would see our lives as a pilgrimage with God on our life's journey.

True. But the title of the thread is a different topic. Also you need to remind everyone that while God dislocated Jacob's leg, He also changed his name to Israel, which means "a prince with God and men".

These were two thoughts I picked up from a recent message at church. I've been pondering why they became connected in my mind. I'll be honest, I wrote this OP without a clear thought in mind, just wondering where it might go.

But I think I understand the connection my mind was making.

I feel very crippled by my older (flesh) self.

Much love!

Significant to me is how you see the younger and older are both in regards to you …not as groups of people as younger and older…but applying it to within you. Just an opinion but I think there is much to that as a matter of perspective. For example even with the vessel created unto destruction and one created unto honour. And how God chooses the one created unto honour. That one He predestinated to be called a Son of God. Again, just an opinion but what I like about what you shared is that it isn’t attacking, or boasting against others as some young and some old; but is looking inwardly at within.

Kinda wonder if I have that problem. God keeps telling me it's time to go for me. But I'm still here thankfully.

Always good to hear from you marks.
