What this is talking about, I think, is finding something I wanted more than everything else.
I found the love of my Father.
I loved Him more than myself and became willing to trade the only thing I had for this love, which was myself.
As it turned out, self was the asking price.
Just another shining example of God's goodness.

I stand in awe of a God whose heart is ravaged over fallen man.
Washed in the power of innocent blood, it's covering all of my sin. - David Ruis

It is either speaking of the fact that Jesus counts us as a precious jewel and paid the cost of His very life to purchase us or else it speaks, if you look at it from another angle, of the value of heaven and that going to heaven is worth giving up all that you have.

Paying the cost of my lifestyle of sin which may seem to be of worth to me (it may seem to me to be all that I have) is entirely worth the pearl of great price which is the kingdom of heaven.

For at the right hand of the Lord there are pleasures for evermore (Psalms 16:11) and there is no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain (Revelation 21:4).

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it." Matthew 13:45-46 NIV
This parable is about the kingdom of heaven; the earthly kingdom in which Christ will reign over the nations along with the believing remnant of Israel.
In the verses below, in which Jesus was explaining the parable of the tares of the field (Matthew 13:36), the believing remnant of Israel (the children of the kingdom) and the earthly kingdom is spoken of:
(Matthew 13:38 KJV) The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked [one];
(Matthew 13:41 KJV) The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
This parable is likewise about the earthly kingdom, not the church, the body of Christ:
(Matthew 13:45 KJV) Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Jesus commanded Israel to sell all for the kingdom:
(Luke 12:32 KJV) Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
(Luke 12:33 KJV) Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
This parable was to illustrate to Israel selling all to enter the kingdom on earth:
(Matthew 13:46 KJV) Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

The pearl is Jesus Messiah. The field is my heart.
I am the believing remnant of Israel. The house of Israel.
I am spiritually and genetically a descendent of Aaron, 1st high priest of ancient Israel.
I know these things because God speaks them to me.
The good seed is the word of God planted in my heart.
The mustard seed.
The bad seed is the lie of the enemy planted in my heart. "Knowledge will make you like God."
The word ecclesia, or congregation, described gatherings of new testament believers.
The word, "church" means "a building of a lord." It was added to the revelation of God. - see Revelation 22:18
I say "add" because the word of God cannot be broken.
The word "church" is a misnomer.
It is a cursed word that promotes the kingdom of this world, which is self.
I have sold myself to Jesus.
I am not yet perfected but Jesus and I are working on it.
As a Levite, I have no inheritance in this world.
All the Lord has given me, I give freely. :)

Romans 8:18-19
8:18. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19. For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

only an opinion...to me the pearl of great price is Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

1 Peter 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit,
which is
in the sight of God of great price.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;(1 Thessalonians 4:9) and ye shall find rest unto your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (1 John 5:3)

Romans 8:9-10 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. [10] And if Christ be in you (that which is not corruptible), the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit(of Christ) is life because of righteousness.

Philippians 3:8-9 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, [9] And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
