I heard a good sermon today about moving on as a Christian. About taking the next step in faith that God is calling us to do. How sometimes we can get stuck in our ways or are fearful of what is ahead to take the next step.

The pastor used the Hebrews at the foot of Mt Sinai and before they crossed the Jordan river to enter the promised land. Their journey and destiny lay ahead but not until they crossed the river.

On the one side Mt Sinai and the old covenant. Crossing the Jordan river where Christ was baptised was the entering into Gods promise and new covenant.

But there was a choice and I wonder if some stayed who perhaps were unsure or did not want to give up the old ways. Imagine that they could see the promised land and the g;lory it offered. Night and day it was calling. For those who were unsure this must have kept bugging them. Trying to hold onto the past while God is calling when they looked over the Jordan river.

The pastor mentioned how a river can be up to your ankles, then your knees and then your waist as you wade out further. Then it becomes too deep and you have to swim. This was when we put our trust in God. When its beyond us and we cannot cross ourselves into the promised land.

This same trust is what sustains us when God is calling us to the next level of faith. We can be unsure and wanting to stay put. But we keep looking at the mountain and then God reminds us of the promise land. His promise of His Son on the other side of that river. His promise that He will guide us and be there no matter what obstacle we may put in the way.
