Is the purpose of the Bible to help us to know God better, or is that we should do everything the Bible tells us to do? If you say, "Both," which would you consider to be more important?

Jesus told us to eat his flesh and drink his blood. The written Bible makes it easy for anyone to the first. Doing the second is where a lot of people, it seems to me, come up short. When we do both then we Live. Is that not important? Without Life do we not remain dead?

I like to start at the beginning - love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and love our neighbors as ourselves.

Or...
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The Lord said there are two commandments, which I quoted. From there I might suggest we read the rest of the Bible to help us understand those two commandments. And then I keep coming back to two Bible verses: 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray constantly. And I think the key to heaven is this: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matthew 5:17).

Well, it must be first things first! God's order rather than our own for certain!

Give God the glory!

I would be one of the ones to say both, and that the two cannot and must not be separated. What good would it do us if we came to know the Father and yet never obeyed Him? This would actually make things worse for us, because we would be held accountable for having come into a relationship with Him and yet we never let Him change our lives.

So is your final loyalty to the Lord or to the Bible?

Wanna get to Heaven? Do God’s will. What is that ? “ Believe in the One that He sent” .....If by “ Repent” you mean “ Turn to God with Faith in Christ Jesus” you are on to something.....If by “ repent” you mean being sorry for your sins and making up your mind to “ turn over a New Leaf” and “ Live right “ the rest of your life.....you are being deceived.....many people are repenting their way to Hell.....Salvation is NOT turning “ From” sin—- it’s turning “TO” Him.......do that by believing the Gospel Of 1Cor15:1-4.......

No, it isn't a trick question. The Bible and God are two different things - God is not a book.
Are you sure. I think a book is part of God and written into his being the truth and life of man. So that part of God is like a book.

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

If you have enough honesty and self- insight to realize that you have never done this and never will while you are in a flesh body , there is a type of “ loop- hole” that may interest you —- Believe 1Cor15:1-4 and it will get you Saved.....It’s not called “Good News” for nothing....

Yes, I am sure.
God knows all and remembers all and chooses to forget our sins sometimes. Books were originally created to record information so it wouldn't be lost.

Matthew 10 29“Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31“So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

@Bob Estey perhaps we come from different understandings. Books are created to record information so that it is not lost. Allow me to explain:

Science has something called information theory. It's based on quantum theory, a series of binary on's and off's. And in that theory mass is information. Therefore our souls are made of information. And that information God doesn't want lost. So he keeps us as written, as the information we are. And blots out the sins with his blood. When we die, he recovers that information in the resurrection.

And of course as we live our lives, we create information which is recorded in the book of life perhaps. Or blotted out. Etc, etc, etc.

So much is like a giant book of recorded information. Perhaps that is why revelation refers to these massive books for all his created man to be written in.

The bible is of course also recorded history of sin and righteousness. Very similar.

Correct, God is not a book. But now, how can you say your loyalty is to God if you do not listen to what He says?
That is where you and I might have a disagreement. I believe the Word of God is those places in the Bible where God and Jesus are directly quoted. I believe we need to obey everything they say.

But we need to keep things simple enough to understand. The Lord gave us a few commandments to follow. If we follow them, I think we find heaven.

The Bible is a tool that can help us find God, but the purpose isn't to obey the Bible - the purpose is to find God.
