If you His doubt His Word, much of which was revealed by His “ chosen Vessel” Paul......the one Jesus said to follow ( “follow me as I follow Christ”.... you think Paul came up with that bold statement on his own? The Holy Spirit inspired him to say it) , yes , if you fail to believe His TOTAL revealed Word, I doubt if you know Him at All.....
I don't doubt anything God or Jesus say when they are directly quoted.

If you want to obey Jesus, do what He said.....who do you think inspired Paul to write “ FOLLOW ME, as I follow Christ “——- Paul would not have been blasphemous enough to utter such a thing unless Jesus told him to....

Of course Paul ain't on the same plain as Jesus.....nobody ever made that stupid claim....Jesus used Paul to preach the Gospel and make us aware of the changes in God’s Plan for humanity....Paul revealed the Age Of Grace, once the Age Of The Law was finished..
Certainly most of what Paul said was inspired by God.

You need verse 38 to get the full meaning and context of what Jesus is saying.
Joh 5:38-40 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. (39) You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. (40) But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

To believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son sent by the God the Father is necessary if the Word of God is to abide in us by the power of God the Holy Spirit.
The point is that people were trying to please each other rather than please God. God knows what is best for us, so we need to please him.

His words are in the Bible, but it is better to get to know him than to only know the Bible.
Your post presumes that there is a better, more certain, way to know God than using the Bible.

If the Bible is merely a book about God to you, then it is no better than a novel or history book. How do you claim to know which parts are sacred and which are not? If you only adhere to the 'God said' and 'It is written' passages, what makes you so sure that those are legit?

By your own admission in other threads, you are an avid church-goer. Be careful that your faith is not watered-down to nothing; churches and seminaries are the most faith-defeating institutions there are today. You say prayer is the best (only?) way to get to really know God, but without scripture, how do you know how to discern, and test, the information you receive in prayer? That is a big function of scripture is to be used to line-up information that is received through prayer or preachers to decide if what is being received stands up to the standard of scripture.

See, your whole method falls apart under the slightest scrutiny. Without scripture, you cannot know that the god you are getting to know is the God of the Bible. You are left completely vulnerable to the devil's wiles when you do not learn about them from scripture. That being of light that you are worshiping and putting aside from scripture is likely not the God of the Bible, but a counterfeit who is fooling you with preferences for his ways in opposition to God's True Ways.

God and Jesus are quoted over and over in the Bible, and it's true we need to obey, but the purpose is to get to know God - the purpose isn't to obey the Bible.
The Bible is God's Word. When you obey the Bible, you are obeying God.

Stop trying to make the Bible something it is not.

So parts of the Bible are lies?
Folks pick and choose . And that will be to their own destruction .
Do you notice how we have folks attacking things about paul . Can you believe we also have
folks telling us some of JESUS sayings no longer apply to us . They also say hebrews does not apply to us , or james .
Folks are falling for a ruse .
ITS ALL FOR US .
And james nor paul contradict each other , nor does peter contradict paul or james , nor does john contradict the others .
ITS all for us . Every lovely word .
Let us examine paul and james . these often get pitted against each other
as though they contradict each other .
Was james saying that FAITH does not save us . NOPE . HE KNEW IT was FAITH IN JESUS that saved us .
Was paul preaching against true faith , against what james said about having to be hearers and doers .
A BIG FAT NO .
LOOK at what paul tells the church , IF one provides NOT , aka he aint DOING , for his own , specially for those of his own household
HIMS DENIED THE FAITH . THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT JAMES was saying . IF we aint hearers and doers our faith IS DEAD .

He contradicts himself . FIRST HE SAYS the way to get to KNOW GOD is the bible , THEN HE Says this .
His heart is showing itself . One who has another mindset and agenda will always slip up .
always .
I think this man has another mindset and another direction he wants to take the people . ATTENTION EVERYONE . STAY IN THOSE BIBLES
let no man sway us from the path .

Jesus is speaking to those who would rather be popular than obey the Lord, I believe.
Speaking of obediance , what would your advice be to folks who had been married and had left their spouses
for a reason other than fornication and were either remarried or wanted to be remarried . WHAT WOULD YOU TELL such a person .
And dont use the do as your conscious bids you line . TELL me
what would you tell such a person . LETS see who is obeying WHO .

I agree. He will suddenly recall a verse to your mind at a very good time and sort of tie it into an understanding with a life experience. Sometimes, you don’t even really remember reading the verse.
So what you posted just says you need to read but you also need the Spirit to tell you what it means.

When Jesus came, He said of some men, 39 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! 40 Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.

The letter kills, it is the Spirit who gives life.

The irony is that the little club of 'naysayers' on this Forum, all the ones who support eachother's Godless posts, they all sound alike. They all preach the same false doctrines under different screen names. It's always the same. Sin all you like, the Bible is not sacred, hell is not real, Jesus already came, love all evil and don't judge anybody for anything. It's the same doctrines in different titled threads over and over.

Let me remind us of the very first day , BY GRACE , that GOD DREW ME .
What BOOK DID HE PUT ME , What LOVE DID HE PUT INTO MY HEART .
IF we had the SPIRIT we would LOVE the BIBLE . That is a FACT . Any man that tries even half of what ol bob has been doing
HAS me greatly concerned for HIM . SOmething aint right . HE is slipping up too . Folks get weary of the bible
cause the flesh gets weary of those reminders . BUT A LAMB LOVES EVERY WORD .

You have this summed up , but they will never beleive its what they do . THEY WILL BELIEVE THEY FOLLOW GOD , CHRIST
and that we are but naysayers , legalistic , haters , doom and gloomers , anti christs
the list goes on for all the names i been called . YET I NEVER ONCE POINTED ANYONE TO ME . I NEVER ONCE DID .
I ALWAYS said GET IN BIBLES . SO whose is pointing to WHOM. THEY Point to men and their church learned doctrine
I POINT TO JESUS , SO I POINT TO BIBLE .

The object is to have a relationship with the Lord. The Bible helps us do that, but the goal is to have a relationship with God. The goal isn't to memorize the Bible.

I believe the Word of God are those times God and Jesus are quoted it the Bible. Yes, we have to obey God and Jesus.

Jesus tells us that it is an act of adultery to divorce and remarry, unless the reason for the divorce was unchastity.
