The Purpose of the Bible

Yes, there is such a thing. Here it is (again):

[39] You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me;
[40] yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. John 5:39-40 RSV

I like those verses. Here's another one that may be applicable to those who wish to judge other believers:

So Peter, upon seeing him, says to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?” Jesus says to him, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!” (John 21:22-23)

Bob, I think you're on the right track. At least, I approach the Bible the same way you do. However, I do realize that Bible Study means something more to some of our brothers and sisters, and that just may be how the Spirit grows individuals individually. One size doesn't fit all believers.

And so it was too often among the Jews studying the scriptures gaining so much knowledge with so little understanding. Do any "Christians" today have similar problems?

Consider those Pharisees who really did know the Bible [OT] very well as did Saul of Tarsus. Saul of Tarsus did not go out after Stephen and his encounter on the road to Damascus in order to study the Bible. He knew the Bible. He did not know God, so he did not understand what he knew. He had the flesh of Jesus without the blood [the Spirit].

When Saul/Paul came back from getting to know God through the Spirit, that Spirit, the Holy Spirit, then led him on his journeys and as he began to write much of what is now known as the NT.

Many of those other old Pharisees were apparently angry and jealous. Some of them undoubtedly knew the scriptures as well as Saul/Paul, but the brain and heart of carnal men was still leading them. How are many Bible-school and seminary learned ministers today any different? Pride is a real obstacle for many, I do believe.

Saul/Paul was humbled, and we see the result!

No , i am loving the scriptures and all things that Christ and the apostels taught , cause i LOVE GOD and thus love the truth .
BUT you abandon certain parts . That my friend is what the pharisees did . THEY overlooked some things
because they did not love GOD, did not love the truth .
PS , most folks dont like what some apostels said , due to some of those apostels spoke against CERTIAN SINS
ITS True JESUS never said a word about being gay , but he also never spoke against marrying a three year old
IS THAT OKAY . OR HE never spoke against a man marrying and sleeping with a bull or a dog , IS THAT NOW OKAY .
HECK NO . DEEP down you KNOW why you dont like what some of the apostels said . DEEP down
one of them listed a sin that you dont want to see as a sin .
JESUS would never have supported sleeping with animals nor same sex marriage. We can not pick and choose
what truths to follow and what truths to omit . The pharisees did this and so do most all of men .
Now lets ask each other questions concering the truth . FEEL free to ask me anything , cause i am sure gonna ask you some questions .

It does not matter.....if “ that” human source of stumbling does not snag you to show that you are a Sinner That needs a Savior,something else will......ever get angry at somebody? You are no better than a murderer as far as God’s Standard is concerned.....if I slap you will you offer me the other cheek to slap also.....if I ask for one of your cars, will you give me the other car if you own one? The point is that you can’t meet Gods Standard if you want to try to enter His Heaven on your own merit—- you are a Sinner by birth .....completely wretched and lost without Grace provided by a Savior...Anybody that thinks they are “ good enough “ for Heaven is damned......

You can't immerse yourself in the Holy Spirit. You either have it or you don't. God doesn't give it by measure.
John 3:34 You can absolutely immerse yourself in His Word, but that's not the trendy agenda party line that all the Naysayers Club are towing right now. It's all about diminishing the Bible from every one of you currently.

I had to unblock you just to read this post. Ever since I first arrived on this Forum you have been posting a whole lot of nonsense.

You have a great many fooled here with your avatar pic and your gigantic font type, but I only judge by what people post. If you post Truth, I'll support you no matter who you are. If you post hogwash on a regular basis, I have no time for it.

I post a significant post like #255 and you immediately bury it with a long post about nothing at all, not even directing it to anybody particular. Those who pay attention here won't be fooled by your nonsense.

If you love the Lord with all your heart, mind and soul, you will have a passion for His written Word, all of it. It is His voice upon the earth and it is His Spirit per John 6.

How do we know we truly Love Christ . hearers and doers . Love the glorious truth of His every word .
No man has seen God , we know them by their fruits . If one loves GOD , HE loves Righteousness and His brethren .
The problem is , i see many in this generation that dont truly Love Christ above all , and thus they dont even have
true love for their neighbor . Cause true love desires none to perish , thus it would correct error and not leave
one in sin and error . Let us always remember that . Stay glued in the bible and let all keep learning .
