I am currently in 2Kings, and I found two verses with some similarity...2 Kings 4:35 35Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.7x..interesting2 Kings 5:10 10And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.Im new to the meaning of numbers in scripture...some insight pleaseIs 7 just a number used for purification or cleansing?

think the idea of numeralogy has been around for a long time, would think for proper understanding as it applies to OT and NT we would have to defer to Jewish tradition. Am not really into it myself, just happen to remember 7 (if I got it right) and 6.

There is a book you may find of interest....Number in Scripture - E.W. BullingerGod's sovereign design is proven not only in His Words but in numerics in scripture....including chapter and verse numbers that were assigned at later dates. It is absolutely mind boggling to see these occurrences. This is being discussed on another forum where it was written: God is truly THE Master Mathematician. His numeric signature is found everywhere in His Word, and in His creation. His Word is numerically structured throughout! My Bible is so annotated with number patterns and Greek and Hebrew gematria, I'm the only one who can read it God's word is a treasure! The writer also suggests "Panin, whose writings are very good." I have not yet studied his writings but intend to.To answer your question....#7, the great number of spiritual perfection. A number which, therefore, occupies so large a place in the works, and especially in the Word of God as being inspried by the Holy Spirit. ~ Bullinger.......Whirlwind

I've often wonder about that myself. Who decides what a number means, and how do they know they're correct? Where in the Bible does it give the meaning of any numbers?

Hi Jon-Marc,Folks like Panin and Bullinger studied the Bible for many years. Panin was an atheist but when he saw the Divine thumbprint of God throughout the Bible in numerical fashion.....he became a believer. This is not numerology which has occult connections....fortune telling, etc. but the use of numbers in the Bible...numerics.One that I noticed is found in:Revelation 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. Here, to me, God is telling us that the king of the 9/11 attacks was Satan himself and He tells us in 9:11.As far as the numbers and their meanings. They consistently maintain the same meaning throughout. If the #6 is related to Satan in Genesis it stays that way all the way through Revelation. Same with the #40 probation, the #5 grace, etc., etc......it is fascinating.......Whirlwind

Also Jon you have to remember that Hebrew letters and numbers are the same where we have "A B C" and "1 2 3" the Hebrew uses the first letter of their alphabet to mean both (example A and 1) therefore all Hebrew words also have a numerical value (that is the letters can be added together as numbers)
