Jeremiah 43:1) And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words, Jeremiah 43:2) Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the LORD our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there: Jeremiah 43:3) But Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away captives into Babylon. Jeremiah 43:4) So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the Lord, to dwell in the land of JudahHow many times do people err in today’s world because they choose not to hear the word of God. People turn their ears away from the law, yet want to follow Christ. The hearer can never be justified, but the doer is, as it is written, Romans 2:13-15) (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law to themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another; ) So while we may be set free from the law, we are by no means to neglect our responsibility to avoid sin and keep the law. For “the strength of sin is the law”, but notice that anyone in the mist of presumptuous sin is under the law and not under grace. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer there in?” Can one be an Adulterer, or a whoremonger, or a thief, or a covetousness person, and still inherit the kingdom of God? No, and seeing how such shall not inherit the kingdom of God, such therefore are not under grace, but are still under the law: Which under such no man can be justified for as it is written, “the just shall live by faith”. By faith, wouldn’t we want to obey God, and walk in his ways, and do that which is right in his sight? “hate the evil and love the good”. Name a sin that is not considered evil or wickedness. The synonyms for wickedness are sin and evil. Notice in the parable about the angels and the field in the end of time, Matthew 13:36-43), Jesus says “The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend”, and how in Matthew 5:29-30), The Lord speaks on the seriousness of avoiding offence and said, “it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.” How deadly is offence! No wonder Moses said, “Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.” Psalm 25:14) The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.) The fear of the Lord is something that, when we genuinely have it, it will make us produce the fruits of the Spirit and will make us hate the things God wants us to hate, namely sin and the evil way. “I hate every false way”, and that is why we need to acquire the fear of the Lord; so that we will loathe iniquity and be attentive to the way of righteousness that God wants of us. “If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.” Its better to be corrected now then later which may not even happen at all because we are not guaranteed life nor the promise of tomorrow, so we have to push, reach, and stride for the straight and narrow, lest we fall to a ditch on either side of it and can’t get out, or lest we “walk in darkness” trying to work salvation in our own way which is destine to fail; but God’s way is certain, “As for God, his way is perfect: The word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.”
