Space Weather News for Nov. 25thhttp://spaceweather.comISS TOOLBAG: A backpack-sized tool bag inadvertently dropped from the International Space Station last week is orbiting Earth and has been sighted from the ground. The tool bag is surprisingly bright, about 6th or 7th magnitude, which makes it an easy target for binoculars or a small telescope. Today's edition of http://spaceweather.com offers observing tips, sighting reports and a movie of the bag in orbit.------We watched for comets, faint asteroids, even space stations. Now, we are out there spotting toolbags amongst the grand constellations!

Lol...That is amazing! Are they going to try and get it back?
The toolbag is not far from the station. Since it was with them originally, it had the same orbit, and it drifted away from the slight force applied to move away from them. Eventually it will obtain its own orbit, but it will take time to drift away. Craft like this are on a very strict orbit, and at this time there is no technology to go to the toolbag and retrieve it. It's not like the science fiction movies where they can just steer a craft around space to get to a certain location. This toolbag will most likely become another piece in the vast amount of space junk that will orbit the earth indefinitely. Possibly one day the orbit could decay and it will fall out of the sky like Thor's fiery hammer.

One concern was that it is possible to collide with such junk, but the probability of hitting into this particular piece is about the same as an ocean vessel running over a cat.
