The office was established by the George W. Bush administration in 2001.

During the first Trump administration, it was inactive and replaced by an initiative centered around Centers for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives. It was reinstated by the Biden administration, but abolished by the second Trump administration and replaced with the White House Faith Office.

On February 14, 2021, President Joe Biden designated Rogers as executive director of the reestablished Office under his administration

Her position I don't believe is for "personal religious purposes" but rather, to advise the President of the policies and politics of what other "faith-based" and secular so called "religious groups" are doing.

It's a Political position she was given to oversee the implementations of certain "social programs" that were enacted under previous administrations.
