Closing the strait of Hormuz will cause famine. Which is perhaps the real reason why there was a reason to close it.

Has it caused a famine yet? Oil is still flowing. There are alternate routes and alternate sources. We have the largest oil reserve in our back yard. Besides, Saudi Arabia already has a pipeline to bypass the Strait of Hormuz with plans to expand, making the Strait much less relevant in the future.
