This is probably just from my abysmal understanding of Jewish history but I would love for someone to explain it to me. 31Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, 32but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?" 33"We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God." 34Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods ( John 10: 31-34)I know Jesus didn't turn into a new ager so what does he mean by "you are Gods"

Jesus is talking about what is written IN THIER LAW that is they belong (are the children of) GodJohn 10:34 "Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, Ye are gods?"Jesus is reminding them that what He had said, was a quote from their law. It is written in Psalm 82:6; "I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the Most High."What is talked about here is the ownership of the child. If you have a child in the flesh, your son or daughter is yours by ownership, to have and discipline, and teach the ways of God. Jesus is telling them that when you are of God, then God owns you, and you are the possession of God ["ye are God's"] by the fact that you have become His son. Keep in mind that here the Psalms are included in the law.Jesus is telling these Jews that in their law it is written that you are God's property, I am reminding you what your own law states, and for that you want to kill me?

Thanks, I completley misunderstood what he was saying there. I took it as him telling the people that they were a God. Which completley goes against all my believes. But instead he was telling the crowd that they were his children. Thats a sigh of reliefThanks Kriss. your brother in christPS. Man does this thread make me look stupid

Hi Kriss and Letsgofishing,Yes, I agree, and may I add....NOTE: the Jews said they wanted to stone Jesus because he was "claiming to be God". Jesus IS God and the Jews rejected the fact that their God could become incarnate in human flesh. What Jesus was saying to them was "blasphemous".Now that we understand that, we understand the promise that Jesus made to his people....John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"Romans 8:14 "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."Romans 8:19 "For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God."Philippians 2:15 "That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;"1John 3:1 "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not."1John 3:2 "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is."Kim

Why would you change the Lower Case g to a Capital G? The Sons of God, are gods, as Adam had Dominion( [g]odship over the Earth) Genesis 1:28. Now We Know Jesus is the First and Last Adam. 1st Corinthians 15:45, So then Jesus Had Dominion Now Daniel 7:14. Let's Forward to Revelation, NOTE that what Adam Lost in the Garden of Eden, which was the Abstract Deed of Dominion over the Earth, which Satan took by the Way of Sex Sin, Jesus Took Back. Jesus is the God of Heaven and Earth, but If you took a Look at the definition of a god, it's dominion over something, not necessarily the Center of Worship and Idol. So Adam, having Dominion of the Earth According to Genesis 1:28, was a [g]od of the Earth. (edited god, cause I put gof)Now Revelation 11:4, the God of the Earth(Jesus Christ, the Last Adam), commissions Moses and Elijah.Don't twist Scripture, it doesn't mean that since he calls us gods, we are IDOL WORSHIPPED gods, we have dominion and Power over all things, cause Christ is In Us.

What are you talking about change what "g" I used God when he was talking about his children John is quoting hebrew law in a mocking sense and it is written with "g" (check the scripture)Jesus is reminding them that what He had said, was a quote from their law. It is written in Psalm 82:6; "I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the Most High." that is GOD

Hi letsgofishing, kriss gave you a good answer to your concerns about jesus statement in John 10:34, "Jesus answered them, 'Is it not written in your law, "I said you were gods?" Another aspect to look at is that He used the small "g" to indicate human beings. In the Old Testament, judges were often called "gods" because they were viewed as acting in God's place in dispensing justice.Jesus argument may be understood as follows: "Rather than taking offense because this word is used of Me, you should examine My credentials that prove My Father has sent Me into this world."I think your question is a very good one!waynemlj
