What did Jesus do, when tempted by the devil?

Matt. 4:1-11 (KJV)
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

And the many other times that Jesus directed his hearers to the written word of God...

Matt. 21:42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Matt. 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

Matt. 26:52-56
52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
53 Thinkest thou that I can not now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

Luke 24:25-27
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Luke 24:44-48

44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

In trying to drive a wedge between the living Word (the Lord Jesus Christ) and the written Word (the Holy Bible), you are committing an act of the greatest folly and wickedness. I pray that the Lord would open your eyes, granting you repentance and forgiveness.
David,
I agree with the other member because the way I read some posts we are pitting Paul against Jesus.
I think the only way to get passed this is to rely on what Jesus taught when any SEEMING contradiction is noted.

For instance, here's an example.
But first, for clarity's sake, I do not believe in unconditional eternal security (OSAS) and I do not believe in Faith Alone, the way most understand it.

Here is something Paul said:

Romans 8:38-39
38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Here is something Jesus said:

Matthew 7:26-27
26“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
27“The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

Is there a conflict with the two above verses?
If not...why not?

There can be no conflict in the NT.

Of course there is no conflict between what Paul wrote, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (and all the writings in the Bible were inspired by the Holy Spirit), and what Jesus said!

Jesus said that his sheep would hear his voice, follow him and never perish.

John 10:25-28 (A.V.)
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Those who do not act on Jesus' words, prove thereby that they are not saved.

Here is what the apostle John wrote.

1 John 3:8-10 (E.S.V.)
8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
9 No-one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.
10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.

These people in the reformed theology movement claim Jesus taught the law of Moses to the Jews and as such Christians are supposed to ignore Jesus and instead follow Paul and only believe his teachings. Maybe they think Paul is their savior?

You mean that God has written a Brand-New Bible so that we can just toss the old bibles into the WPB.

Or are you simply suggesting that there will soon be another translation for us to be mislead by.
Sam shepard is an anti christ . NOW GO to and behold his message and see if you agree or disagree .
I am long done with those anti christs who always t ry and make it seem
as if reading the bible for oneself is dangerous and erroenous .
Look him up . The man is of the harlot , of her ecumeincal and anti christ peace too .
As are many others .

Your words.

That could mean anything.

Could you concentrate on Matthew 7 and Romans 8 and explain why they differ?
Can they be harmonized?

Question is, WHAT is coming out of these new bibles?
I bet i know . more TRUTH . i bet it will be a more all inclusive bible if anything .
Satan has one mission . And if he cant get a man out of the bible
he will convince the man he cannot learn it lest he sits under men .
And if he cannot get them to put down a bible , well hey lets invent one
that omits truth . wh ile using truth to do so . that the devil randy .
THE DEVIL can darn sure quoate any scrip as can his followers
but they gonna quoate it and twist it to implant a lie it never meant .
JUST LIKE his verison of GOD IS Love and dont judge . Just like satans version of peace ,
just like his verison of unity , of love , and of etc
HE TWISETD IT and did it under the claim it was of GOD . THERE is no truth in him .
AND He darn sure knows how to decieve . HE DOES It by the flesh by what appeals to the flesh of man .

You are either extremely misinformed, or you are telling lies; I don't know which.

Please quote two or three Reformed teachers (by the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter is to be established) who say that we are "supposed to ignore Jesus and instead follow Paul and only believe his teachings". Please also quote any who say that they think that Paul is their Saviour.

If you can't do this (and I guarantee that you will not be able to), then we will await your public repentance, since you have made your claims publicly.

my friend i would be concerned with such as twist those words .
And that list is beyond this mere mortal mans ability to count .
A parrot can quoate the gospel , a parrot can quote scrips , it dont mean the parrot understands it or beleives it .
THERE are many who now twist the words of truth in those scriptures to fit the doctrines of men .
let us all be on gaurd .

I know that you live in Italy, so English is probably not your main language; however, your posts exhibit a good understanding of English, so I find it hard to believe that you cannot comprehend my simple sentence: "Those who do not act on Jesus' words, prove thereby that they are not saved.", particularly when I quoted 1 John 3:8-10, demonstrating the principle involved.

1 John 3:8-10 (E.S.V.)
8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

They claim we should follow "Paul's gospel" saying God gave Paul the true gospel

The people at licking ear ministries say to follow Paul's gospel
Paul's Theology | Reformed Bible Studies & Devotionals at Ligonier.org
I've just looked up your link. It says NOTHING about any claimed difference between the gospel that Jesus taught and the gospel that Paul taught (they are, of course, one and the same gospel).

If you think that there is a difference between the gospel that Jesus taught (e.g. in his conversation with Nicodemus) and what Paul taught, then you are a heretic.

I'm not the one claiming we should follow the gospel of Paul and ignore the teachings of Jesus.

1 Timothy 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. waving4.gif

That is so sweet of you David.
I really appreciate that you've noticed that I exhibit a good understanding of English.

Is everyone living in Italy Italian?
Maybe.
Maybe not.

We should never assume anything of anyone we do not know.

I understand your sentence just fine.
It is what YOU mean by it that may not be the same as my understanding of it.
Do you mean that they are not CURRENTLY saved?
Do you mean that they were NEVER REALLY SAVED?

1 John 3:8-10 has absolutely nothing to do with the two verses I gave you.
My verses do not address sin...they address obedience.

The two scriptures are incongruent.
You could try again or we could let it go.

What would you like me to believe?

What exactly?
A genuine believer in Jesus Christ (i.e. one who has been born of God) not only does not make a practice of sinning, but he cannot make a practice of sinning, because he has been born of God. That is what 1 John 3:9 states. It's not rocket science.

Since disobedience is sin (obviously), 1 John 3:8-10 DOES address obedience. If you cannot make a practice of disobedience, then you do make a practice of obedience (there is no third option).

Rom. 8: 38,39 (A.V.)
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Matt. 7:26,27
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

I'm unsure what you want me to say about these passages. They're self-explanatory.

Rom. 8: 38,39 refers to those who are saved; and that they cannot be separated from the love of God in Christ.

Matt. 7:26,27 refers to people who hear Jesus' sayings and says that those who hear but don't obey have no solid foundation and will be destroyed. The obvious implication is that they are unsaved.

and wish to change their meaning to suit their own agenda.
