Around 621 BC, 2 Chronicles 35:

1 Josiah kept a Passover to the LORD in Jerusalem. And they slaughtered the Passover lamb on the fourteenth day of the first month. 2He appointed the priests to their offices and encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD. 3And he said to the Levites who taught all Israel and who were holy to the LORD, “Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. You need not carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and his people Israel.
That's the last time the Ark of the Covenant was mentioned in the Old Testament.

A few decades later, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon captured Jerusalem and raided the temple. There was no mention of the ark.

Fast-forward to Revelation 11:

19 God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.
Perhaps God took the ark before the Babylonians could get a hold of it and stored it for safekeeping in heaven.

Consider also these verses from Hebrews:

Heb 9:1Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
Heb 9:2For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the showbread; which is called the sanctuary.

Heb 9:3And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
Heb 9:4Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
Heb 9:5And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
Heb 9:6Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
Heb 9:7But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
Heb 9:8The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing

We had an Ethiopian immigrant in our church in Florida who claims the ark is in a church in Ethiopia.
I have a theory that the Ethiopian eunach evangelized by Philip may have been visiting Jerusalem having heard the prophesied King had arrived, and he was coming to see if it was time to return the ark. He left, returning, confused, Jesus having been killed, and he didn't understand what was happening.

Much love!
